Nationals park record attendance of 44,685 tonight. Looks and sounds like a 38k - 7k Phillies fan - Nationals fan breakdown. Even by Citizens Bank Park South standards, tonight is absurd.

I'd like to see if that ratio will maintain if and when the Nats ever get good.

D.C. has a rep. of pretty much only supporting the Redskins. Then again neither the Caps, Wizards or Nationals have ever really been any good. Capitals have had a recent stretch but nothing really before that. (I know they lost the Stanley Cup Finals in '98, but few and far inbetween for good seasons as a whole.) Wizards haven't done anything in over 25 years, (again know the success they had in the 60's and 70's but they have done nothing since then) and the Nationals have just been downright awful since moving from Montreal.

Is it because D.C. isn't a good sports town or is it because they're teams just don't win?

What did he do in between? I mean, did he look happy? Was he smiling? Was he talking to people on the bench, or did he just kind of want to be left alone? Was he hitting the Gatorade more than usual? A lot can happen in between at bats - by only posting every at bat, you're only posting part of the story.

Between he was smiling, talking and all of that. He must have learned a lesson down in AAA. Looks happy to be back.

whoosh

DC's weak sports culture is because the teams are perennially bad, lots of people there aren't from/of there, and national politics makes for a better spectator sport than anything athletic. In fact, Washington has always seemed to have a weak local culture in general. It's not really the north, and it's not really the south. You don't hear anyone say that you haven't lived till you've had real authentic Washington-style food, or that the Washington music scene has really fostered a lot of great sounds for the rest of America, or that anyone has either finally shed or finally learned to affect a perfect Washington accent. Washington probably kinda blows. Fairly comprehensive public transit system, though, you gotta give 'em that!

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Sounds like a city created out of political compromise ;)

If and when the Washington Nationals are jousting with the Phillies at the top of theNational League East, they may look back on Saturday night as one the low points in their imbalanced rivalry. The Nationals had won four of five meetings, before the Phillies restored order with a 5-0 victory as their fans’ latest invasion of Nationals Park led to Washington’s first sellout this season and set a stadium attendance record of 44,685.

The crowd surpassed the old mark, set June 25, 2009, against the Boston Red Sox and their rabid followers, by 2,700. Phillies fans chanted players’ names, roared with each Philadelphia run and booed Jayson Werth for having the audacity to catch a flyball in right field or walk into the batter’s box.

When the game ended, the seats remained about 85 percent full, nearly all of them occupied by Phillies fans. Thousands had come by the busload, and now they stood and clapped as the final out beckoned. Nationals players could not help but notice.

“Of course,” first baseman Michael Morse said. “They’re cheering for the other team. You wish they were cheering for you.”

So how are my fellow Cleveland friends this morning? :P Don't worry, you guys destroy Porcello I'm not looking forward to it.

Can take that back?

No, we did destroy Porcello. :P

I can't get a read on this game! No more assumptions until it's over! :P

EDIT: What a throw by Jackson! That sent chills down my spine! I can't stop smiling.

Brian Wilson went on the DL today. If there was a Disabled List World Series, the Giants would run away with it.

Twins would beat 'em in 6.

Damn, today was awesome even if outside circumstances forced me to leave the Padres game early. Seeing Hoffman get his number retired was absolutely incredible.

Unless someone passes both of them sometime in the future, I think the Hoffman/Rivera greatest closer of all time debate will never end.
