2011 MLB Season Thread

The LDS is the most garbage-ass sports playoff element we have. Let's have tripleheaders with start times no one's ever heard of for games that no one can attend or watch and stagger them so you never remember who's playing which day, and then have a team with like 100 wins over six months lose a best-of-five.

Let's join the corpses of Dick Stockton and Cal Ripken Jr. at 12:47 Eastern for Game 1 of Diamondbacks-Brewers. OCTOBER BASEBALL AIN'T NOTHIN LIKE IT

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Might be out at YS, but the wall may be a bit to high.

At Yankee Stadium I think it bounces off the wall. That thing couldn't have gotten more then 30 feet off the ground and couldn't have cleared that 315 foot mark by any more then a couple of feet and its 318 feet down the left field line at Yankee Stadium.

Just waiting to see what ESPN home run tracker has to say about it.

Checked home run tracker today and sure enough Tropicana Field is the only ballparky in the majors where Longoria's game winning "blast" would be a home run.

So WTF with TBS not releasing the game times now that they know all of the series? I have tix to Phillies NLDS on Saturday and still cannot make plans for the day. They should have known the scenarios ahead of time and had a plan for all possibilities.

Saturday is 5:30 or 8:00. Sunday is 8:00 or 8:30

Back to Manager of the Year for a second, the NL one will probably be Kirk Gibson, w/ Roenicke finishing 2nd...

How do you figure that for Saturday? The Yankees are the only other EST game, and at least one of these games will have to start at noon or 1 EST right? I can't imagine they'd put the Yankees there so I was figuring the Phillies might get that sucky time slot. 5:30 works for me... let's make that happen.

They will give Rangers-Rays the 1 PM Death Time Slot. I would bet anything.

Well that's where he hit it. That's all that matters.

5:07 start time tomorrow and the Tigers/Yankees game will start at 8:37.

The Rangers/Rays series isn't going to be the one that gets screwed over. The Rangers are the defending AL champs and Dallas is a pretty big market. The series that will get screwed over with times is going to be the Brewers/D'Backs series. Unless your a real baseball fan or a fan of either of the two teams, you have zero interest in that series.

Phillies get 5:00 PM on Sat and 8:00 PM on Sun (busy day in Sports Complex).

Brewers / DBacks get 2:00 PM on Sat (11:00 AM PST???) and 4:30 PM Sunday.

Start at the 4:01 Mark. That's the most comparable thing I can find to what we just witnessed tonight:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBJI5pKtMrk

That's the exact thought I had about tonight's games....that it had a "NFL Week 17: Teams fighting for playoff spots" feel to it. (At least, before NBC acquired the flex-scheduling option.)

I vividly remember that week where the Packers and Panthers were literally having a race to score more points than the other, too....

I'm actually relieved that the Braves didn't make the playoffs. No way in hell were they going to sniff the Series, anyway. Might as well let the hot team get a crack at it. Can't say I'll be cheering for them (won't mind them beating the Phillies), but I doff my cap to the Cardinals for not quitting.

Gonna be honest: I came to that conclusion before tonight's game ended. I think it was in the 12th when I was like "Well, what's the point? Yeah, it would be awesome to see this team somehow avoid the collapse, but they're probably not gonna go to St. Louis and win...and even if they did, the pitching's not there like it was during the summer for this team to make a run." That's pretty much when I realized that win or lose, the Braves were donezo. So, to the April-August 2011 Braves, great season. You guys were awesome. To the September Braves...ew.

At least there's always next year, right? :P

My World Series prediction at the start of this year was Braves vs Red Sox. I went to the last game before the All Star Break vs the Phillies where the Braves got just absolutely hammered, and that was pretty much the point where I realized I had made a mistake...

Speaking of you Philadelphians having a busy day in your Sports Complex, the Sunday DBacks/Brewers 4:30 eastern time Sunday is an idiotic choice.

Sunday:

DBacks vs Brewers - 4:30 EST

Broncos vs Packers - 4:15 EST

Giants vs Cardinals - 4:05 EST

Obviously one of the Sunday games had to go against the afternoon NFL game, but that was a dumb choice for it. I understand the Phillies not playing during the Eagles game because the stadiums are adjacent (still will be busy there in between the games). And although not as direct locationally, this is a case of both teams fan bases having a big conflict. We all know how big the Packers are in Wisconsin, and despite the D-Backs success, the Cardinals are still bigger around here. This game was already going to be hurting from viewership because of the match-up, and this probably won't help it any.

Yeah the LDSs are pretty much a kick in the nuts to non-Yankees fans. Having to wait until a day or two before to know if you're going to have to take off from work to go to a game (if you even can take off work), not being able to even watch some of your team's games, having to choose between going to an NFL game or baseball game, etc. The Phillies obviously got their time slot because after NYY, they're the biggest market, and even though STL isn't a big market, they're good for ratings. ARI-MIL isn't going to catch a break this year, and it sucks for their fans. Probably the same with TB and TEX. It would have been much better for TEX fans had BOS made it.

Turns out that some* Red Sox fans are using the "the Yankees threw the game last night" argument and blaming Joe Girardi because he didn't use Rivera. Jesus, do they really think the reason their team isn't in the playoffs is because Girardi didn't pitch Rivera last night? Right. Because going 7-20 in September and being unable to beat the Baltimore Orioles when your season was on the line had nothing to do with it. Damn, I get being bitter and all but c'mon.

*Note that I said some, not all. B)
