Top songs played at sporting events

I saw this posted on Yahoo this morning.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/post/Which-songs-were-played-most-at-sporting-events-?urn=top-326507

My first thought was, WTF? I had to look up most the list and hadn't even heard half of them before finding them on iTunes this morning.

The writer makes good points about the absence of "Enter Sandman," "Welcome to the Jungle," and "Don't Stop Believin'"

My wife & I both thought "Let's Get It Started" would have been in the top 3. Also wondering where the most overplayed sports song "Rock & Roll, Pt.2" is hiding. Likewise, where's "Chelsea Dagger," which I've probably heard more in the past year than all but 3 of the songs on the list?

Car Wash?

I think it's mostly just the clapping at the beginning of the song that's played.

It's an interesting list I guess. But based on my time of going to sporting events of all kinds in the past year or so, I'd say the list is a little inaccurate.

I believe the Phoenix Coyotes only play songs that are in the public domain, so that they don't have to write any royalty payments to ASCAP.

This explains why they play "Happy Birthday" and "The Bells of Saint Mary's" after goals.

How is ChelseaDagger not on there.

I honestly don't recall hearing Chelsea Dagger that much over the past year. It seemed like it was played a lot during the Stanley Cup playoffs last year, but that's only because it's the Blackhawks' goal song.

A decade ago, the "Hey" song would have been top of the list. But leagues asked their teams to stop playing it when Gary Glitter got nabbed on pedo charges.

And just as an aside, "Happy Birthday" is not in the public domain.

You mean Rock N' Roll Part 2? I just want to know where and how they came up with this list? Can we actually validate this list or was this list compiled by one guy who went to one game in each sport and then decided to write this list. I really question the legitimacy of anything that comes off of Yahoo Sports. It's honestly of a lower level than your average blogger. It's 7th grade editorial and research.

Good point - don't forget that they're the ones who have us Tiki Barber and his crack "research" staff. I don't think a 7th grader would have let that slide.

And yes, I meant Rock n Roll pt 2, but didn't know if anyone would recognize it by its actual name. Used to be everywhere, especially the NFL. Until they banned it.

There have been covers of "R&R Pt. 2" played if that counts.

Pretty terrible how even sports venues are playing that awful radio trash like Soolja Boyee or whatever the hell his name is. That almost makes me want to stop attending games.

almost.

This thread should begin and end with the Washington Redskins blasting Sleigh Bells at FedEx field. I was watching the Eagles beat them down on MNF, and coming back from a commercial break, you could hear "Tell 'em" blasting in the stadium. Awesome.
