Spring football is right around the corner, what are you talking ab-Oh.

[/southern football fan]

You mean spring (indoor) football started tonight on NFL Network? :P Arena Football League!

In reality though, the "WHOLE WORLD REVOLVEZ AROUND DUH NFL!!!!!111" is what's turned me away from the NFL and pushed me towards the CFL more to be honest. I care as much probably about the CFL as the NFL at this point.

/maybe fans can look at real football during this lockout... nah that's a "European" thing :P

Here's the email I received about an hour ago.

Looks like they were going to concede the 18 game idea.

This sounds like an equitable deal. Unless...was the NFL planning on dropping the cap by like $10 million?

Just my opinion, but if there is no season Goodell should get the boot. (Bettman should've in '05 for the NHL)

That's ridiculous, the lockout did incredible things for the NHL. The salary cap stopped the ridiculous payroll gaps between rich teams and poor teams (seriously, look at the team payrolls in the early 2000s) and the product on the ice is better now than at any point in the history of the league.

League revenues have tripled since Bettman became commissioner, it's no wonder the owners just renewed his contract.

They better get this fixed before the start of the season. No pro football is like no christmas for me. While I love basketball, football is by far my favorite sport, and it's not even close. And since I don't play football anymore, I need to watch pro-ball every sunday. Some people go to Church on sundays, I watch football.

Is it me or is Goodell an empty suit

Umm, as THE sports-ecyclopedia I should known in terms of fact that you have known better and had the 2006 CBA on your desktop. Sadly, you just come here and tell us your opinion.

A league's comisssioner is employed by the league owners and works for them, not in his/her inserts. The NHL should have taught you that in term s of a commissioner's duties.

Just you and spell it with me S-A-B-E-R-M-E-T-R-I-C-S. If you're going to put it in your member title then at least look up the correct spelling.

I'll get by and I won't care either way if the NFL doesn't have a season. I think the NFL could stand to be taken down a few pegs and the people who cover the NFL could stand to relearn that there's other just as compelling and interesting athletes and sports to cover as well.

Though, I'm not optimistic that sportscenter wouldn't just become the 24 hour NFL lockout/National Basketball Association coverage center. "Talking about football players not playing and Lebron is still better than talking about hockey." "You said it".

It occurs to me that most fans hate on the commish of whatever sport, until they retire when fans either shrug there shoulders and wonder what all the fuss was about, or laud the guy as the most important person in there sport ever.

I do kind of think Goodell is doing actually ok at the moment. It was pretty obvious from the moment the new players union leader came in that there was going to be something of a set too, as a new Commish and a new union leader attempt to show there muscle. My bet is that eventually a deal will be done and that the 2011 season will occur pretty much as if nothing happened, as far as fans are concerned. The NFL has too much riding on it for it not to happen. For instance do you think the city of Indianapolis would take it lying down if there were no Superbowl for it to host?

I only feel sorry for the workers whose income depends on the NFL, not for the owners or the players. If I had to choose a side, it would be with the players, since I have a feeling that when the NFL opens their books, they might get exposed as most of these American businesses who're claiming economic hardship, when it reality they're just taking a larger piece of the pie for themselves, and then whining about how tough times are and how they sympathize with the common man/woman.

Plus, there's Aeroball, Backbreaker, Madden, other football-related leagues, and the sun came up earlier today. We'll be perfectly fine. I'll start to worry in late August if nothing has been done, but until then I'm going to enjoy watching the fireworks.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.
