The interlocking "SJ" logo would have to get a bit of tweaking so it doesn't resemble a $ symbol. But could be cool.

Given the A's recent claim to fame, I actually think it would work as is.

Frankly I don't think that would be too awful of an idea. The people of San Jose and the A's wouldn't care if there was a Dodgers logo slapped on their hat, just as long as the A's can get moving to San Jose and thrive rather than hang on by a desperate thread in Oakland. Plus the people of San Jose can identify with that logo, it's a good logo, and it's never been used in MLB before. It'd be a decent nod to the past. And they wouldn't be the first team to use an old Giants logo as their primary cap logo :P

The only new cap the A's will need is a replacement for their current "O" cap.

What cap is that? The team only has two current ones and neither of them have an "O" on it

Yes, sarcasm. They've spent very little of their history with the city initial on their caps. Ideal for a wandering franchise.

That was supposed to be sarcasm? Wow. Try a little harder next time.

Philadelphia to Kansas City to Oakland to San Jose (maybe). I guess "wandering franchise" is the perfect description for them. Hopefully San Jose can be a permanent locale for them.

Yes. Most people got it.

Doesn't have to be the SJ from the San Jose Giants obviously. The MLB Giants explored a couple of variations for their potential caps when they nearly moved to San Jose in 1991.

As much as I generally dislike team identities that utilize the letter from their nickname in the design I give the A's an easy pass on their logo. It just works in so many ways. There is no need for them to include any city specific logo or word mark for their caps.

Have any of those variations been published? I thought San Jose was ruled out by the time 1991 rolled around, and that the Tampa Bay sets were being create (which I have seen in a 60 Minutes feature).

A couple were. I have them on my other computer. Both were the 80's style like their "SF" at the time. But one had the same S with a smaller J interlocking within the larger S. The second was just their 80's "SF" with "SJ" instead.

I'm fairly certain the A's wouldn't use Old-English style letters in a script style. With that in mind, I altered my previous script. Here's the revised product:
