Those skin-tight sleeves look creepy.

Wow. I knew New Era was lazy enough to have the black stitching on the white front panel for merchandise, but they couldn't be bothered to use clear stitching (like they used to and '47 brand currently does) for the players?

The weird thing is it looks like they use white or clear stitching for that middle vertical seam. I agree - that black stitching on the white panel looks awful.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

The reason why they go with the particular slots (and yes, the are slotted as one home and one road alternate, and two road and two home alternates for every team) is because of the career modes. In Road to the Show and Franchise mode, the slots line up in order to make it so that when teams wear throwbacks, both teams wear throwbacks. That is why you see the New York Yankees and other, more traditional teams with two alternates. It's how they program the game to work.

And, you are correct on that point. However, the reason they could have justified substituting similar retro home uni for the new home alt is that 1) the new home alt is an exact reproduction of the 1966 home alt with the authentic team script (in which The Show's version of the uniform has always used a generic script) and 2) the throwback game scenario would be intact due to the Braves wearing an alt that is based on a throwback.

I can see that argument; I'm just explaining why the developers do it that way. From the few conversations that I've had with the SCEA team online, they have real hell with some of the teams and the way they present themselves.

O's new hat and patch... Count me as someone who is not a fan of the white panel front at all.

If they dropped the black stitching on the white panel, it would be a big improvement. Still, I don't get the move back to trucker's hats.

Because nostalgia has gone too far. Remember that if the Astros are wearing some god-awful version of the rainbows (aka ANY version of the rainbows) in 2013.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

We went through this when they were unveiled (probably in this thread), but there was some historical precedent for the black stitching. Not that that was the reasoning -- or makes it look any better -- but it has been done that way before.

There may be precedent, but I don't think that went into their reasoning. Seeing as NE has cheaped out on reproductions of the White Sox 1983 home cap in the same way, I assume this was their decision. The Orioles and their design team probably gave all the info to the manufacturers, NE decided to use black thread to save $.05 per cap, and the Orioles said ":censored: it, close enough."

I kind of think the reason New Era went with black stitching on the white panel is because it's not quite as easy to switch up the color of the stitching in those particular areas as some are making it out to be. Looking at the hat I own, if they were to change the black stitching to white on the side of the panels, you'd just see white stitching over the black panel, and if they changed it at the bottom of the panels mid way through it'd actually mess with the structural integrity of the hat. And changing to clear stitching isn't a good solution, as the thread they're using is much stronger than the clear stitch they use. I used to have a throwback Blue Jays cap with the white panel and it used the clear stitching. Reason I don't own it anymore is because the clear stitching completely fell apart after fairly minimal wear.

Notice the stupid "glacier-twill" has been replaced on the script...

What's the problem with glacier twill?

I didn't have an issue with the glacier twill - it was unique without being tacky, and served to differentiate the authentic jerseys from the replicas. I think it worked well with their drop shadowed contemporary look - but it would clash with the traditional look that they went back to. IMO this was a perfect opportunity to go with a chain-stitched script. Would have classed it up even more.
