I can't say I love Chief Wahoo, but that is the Cleveland Indians. Some block C is a nice alternate, but the Chief should adorn the hat.

I don't really like the Hurricanes' logo either, but I don't know what else Carolina can do. I respect it because it's lasted a long time, doesn't look particularly appealing, but is clearly the mark of a primary logo. Their alt. is fine but not going to supplant it ever...I'd also never buy a Florida Panthers uni, but I respect how long and battle-tested that logo is. I even think that's the ONLY NHL jersey that doesn't look bad with the RBK piping because of the shape / action of the panther.

This topic doesn't make any sense. When evaluating a design, how can you dislike it but still "respect" it? If you dislike it, then there's obviously things that you would do to improve or change it if given the chance.

(Not a logo, but a uni element, I guess) I know I am almost the only one, but I hate Michigan's "winged helmet". However, I cannot imagine them without it.

Similarly, most of the below are uniform elements, as opposed to logos:

  • The Packers' "G" logo
  • The Browns' lack of helmet logo
  • The Chargers' curved bolt on the helmet
  • The stripes going through the chest of the Canadiens' home jersey
  • The NY Rangers and my alma matter Wisconsin's diagonal lettering...I'd never choose it now, but they've been around forever
  • Vikings helmet horns

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

I understand what the O.P. is saying.

You may want to change things in the logo, you may think the logo is awful, but said logo has been around so long and has such history and great teams behind it, changing it is kind of verboten. So you respect that history behind the logo, even if it isn't what you think is the best...

I sort of interpreted it more like Discogod did...Not so much that I respect the logo, but that it is so ingrained as a part of the team, I would not mess with it, even if there is no way in hell it would be acceptable (by me anyway) as new today. For example, the Vikings horns. I've always felt they should have put the Norseman on the helmet from day one, but after 50 years, the helmet is their identity and I would not want them to overhaul it, even to a superior design.

Well, I have never been all that impressed with the Yankees NY logo (any version of it). I understand that it it is timeless and shouldn't be changed, but I don't see that logo on a cap and think it is the epitome of coolness. That goes even moreso with the home unis. They are just "meh" in my opinion. I would never change them if given the opportunity, but I don't think anything makes them special other than the team history.

Agreed. These are logos, not people. With people, I guess you could dislike someone but still respect them.

Richmond Flying Squirrels. I respect the playful name and the idea of a superhero squirrel. And yet the logo lacks a certain something. Perhaps it's the drab colors. Like they tried to even out the silly idea with sober colors. Still, I like the idea of Flying Squirrels over the stupid crap like Brockton Rox or Amarillo Sox who spent 5 minutes ripping of the Twins and Red Sox and then have the balls to say, "Oh, a lot of logos look alike."

I agree that the the topic title is not the most fortunate but I understand the point. For me, a team should be able to establish its identity. That means that even though Lakers or Pacers may not have the best logos, I wouldn't change them. I feel kind of sorry for Warriors and Kings because despite being one of the oldest franchises in the league, they are still considered irrelevant by many. They changed their logos so many times and they never found a real identity. I know that re-location didn't help but the Jazz, eg., had no problem coming back to their New Orleans logo.

For me Bulls are in the best situation. They started with a great logo which became iconic and recognizable worldwide thanks to MJ and global expansion of NBA in 90s. And the only thing they have to do, is to stay with it, especially now when they have a contender team again.

the Red Wings' crest...I hate looking at that winged hubcap for too long, but at the same time almost nothing else would fit em.

I apologize if it wasn't clear. Basically I just meant that there are some sports logos that I personally do not care for, but because of either their historical significance or sense of tradition, I would not want them to change. I don't personally like the Flyers logo, but if it were changed, it would just feel wrong to me. Most logos that I dislike, I would love to see redesigned (Carolina Panthers/Hurricanes, etc.).

Although it isn't a logo, per se, but the lack of a logo, I feel this way about Penn State's football uniforms. They are constantly given praise and many people consider their uniforms to be among the best in college football, but the reality is that they look like somebody stopped by a sporting goods store on the way to the game and bought off-the-shelf equipment to outfit the team. It isn't original by any means and they don't even have a unique color scheme to set them apart.

That said, I respect the history and the fact that they have an "old school" coach who has never cared about style over substance, and it would be weird seeing the team outfitted any other way.

I understood what he meant just from the title before even clicking on it. For me I've never liked the Chicago Bulls logo, it just looks ugly to me, maybe its the way the bull is drawn or something, but at the same time, I would never want to see the day they change it, they've had it for too long and obviously the Jordan era helped it become known worldwide.

No because when the Irish came to Ireland and first came in contact with the leprechaun people, they didn't take their land away and force them to move west. Instead, the two groups learned to assimilate peacefully. However, certain tribes of the leprechaun refused to taint the pure blood and moved north into the forests of Ireland, only to be seen rarely, usually at the same time of a rainbows appearance and occasionally at the factories of Lucky Charms.

To me, there are no logos that I dislike but don't want to see changed at all. For one, if I dislike a logo, I want it to be fixed regardless of any given circumstance.

For instance, the Los Angeles Lakers. Yes I dislike the logo and yes I don't think they should get rid of it. HOWEVER...someone needs to clean it up and fix up the bad parts about it. Not an overhaul, just tweeks. Same goes to the Oakland Raiders, the Carolina Panthers, the Dallas Stars and the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Flyers and Devils are examples of classic style designs that worked for decades and need no touching up because...they are simply really good designs. Like you, I don't really "care" about the Flyers logo but I certainly don't dislike it either. Not caring and disliking are two different things.
