NEW.ERA
Lanny was known for the stash really nothing else, he has an easy job being the a vital part of the Flames Alumni. Jarome Iginla is the face of the franchise and one of the best captain's the NHL's ever seen in the last twenty years. So my vote is for Iggy. Don
I have thought about the face of the Caps for awhile, I've batted around Langway, Kolzig, Bondra, and Ovechkin, and I just cant decide. Ovechkin has brought more visibility to the team than its ever had. Kolzig was great in the community and one of the longer serving Caps. Langway and Bondra could be considered the franchises best players ever. DelayedPenalty
Seems I have a little different take on things than most so far. These players are the guys I think of first/most when you say the team name. I think it just has to do with the generation I grew up with, and the players I saw play.Anahiem - Paul KariyaAtlanta - Ilya KovalchukBoston - Ray BourqueBuffalo- Dominik HasekCalgary - Jarome IginlaCarolina - Eric StaalChicago - Ed BelfourQuebec/Colorado - Joe SakicColumbus - Rick Nash Dallas - Mike Modano Detroit - Steve Yzerman Edmonton - Wayne GretzkyFlorida - John VanbiesbrouckLos Angeles - Wayne Gretzky Minnesota - Marian GaborikMontreal - Patrick RoyNashville - Shea Weber New Jersey - Martin BrodeurNY Islanders - Mike BossyNY Rangers - Mark MessierOttawa - Daniel AlfredsonPhiladelphia - Eric LindrosPhoenix - Shane Doan (Winnipeg - Teemu Selanne)Pittsburgh - Mario LemieuxSan Jose - Joe ThorntonSt. Louis - Brett HullTampa Bay - Vincent Lecavlier Toronto - Mats SundinVancouver - Pavel BureWashington - Peter Bondra

knnhrvy16
I agree with most of everybody's list, save a few differences:- For the Ducks, Jean-Sebastian Giguere is always the first person I think of, followed by Paul Kariya, followed by Teemu Selanne. Giguere's Conn Smythe run in 2003 was very memorable to me.- With Atlanta, I tend to think of Dany Heatley, then Ilya Kovalchuk.- I think Vanbiesbrouck is indeed Florida's face, but I actually thought of Roberto Luongo first.- I agree that Maurice Richard is the face of the Habs, but I think Jean Beliveau has a case too. I think of him and Richard equally.- Tomas Vokoun seemed to play in Nashville for so long that for me personally, I still associate him with the Preds, though Weber I think is the guy.- Evgeni Nabokov will always be the face of the Sharks to me. - And lastly, I think of Markus Naslund when I think of Vancouver. The opinions I express are mine, and mine only. If I am to express them, it is not to say you or anyone else is wrong, and certainly not to say that I am right. Evil Doctor
NY Islanders - Mike BossyI don't know why anyone would suggest otherwise? He's the only Islander player that had a cartoon character wear his jersey...(not obvious from this shot, but in the show, whenever he had his back turned, it clearly had 22 on the back, it might have even said 'Bossy' at the top)
GMW79
They aren't necessarily the face of each team, but in my generation and from my point of view here's my mental list:Anaheim - Teemu SelanneAtlanta - Ilya KovalchukBoston - Ray BorqueBuffalo- Dominic HasekCalgary - Jarome IginlaCarolina - Rod Brind-AmourChicago - Chris CheliosColorado - Joe SakicColumbus - Rick Nash Dallas - Mike Modano Detroit - Steve Yzerman Edmonton - Wayne GretzkyFlorida - John VanbiesbrouckHartford - Ron FrancisLos Angeles - Wayne Gretzky Minnesota - nobodyMontreal - Saku KoivuNashville - David Legwand New Jersey - Martin Brodeur NY Islanders - Alexi YashinNY Rangers - Mark MessierOttawa - Daniel AlfredssonPhiladelphia - Eric LindrosPhoenix - Shane DoanPittsburgh - Mario LemieuxQuebec - Joe SakicSan Jose - Joe ThorntonSt. Louis - Brett HullTampa Bay - Vincent Lecavalier Toronto - Mats SundinVancouver - Roberto LuongoWashington - Alexander OvechkinWinnipeg - Keith Tkachuk
webdav
This is a hard thing to do because some teams have so little history and so little success (Columbus, for example) while others have a long history and a whole bunch of success (Habs, Wings, etc.) Some things that jumped out at me:While I think Jarome Iginla is a fine choice for the Flames, I'm surprised that he and Lanny McDonald are the only ones mentioned. What about Al MacInnis? Theo Fleury? Mike Vernon? I think of those guys when I think of the Flames, too.Gretzky in Edmonton, but also Messier, he won 5 Cups there. I think of those two and Kurri, Coffey, Tikkanen, Fuhr and Moog too. (Moog mainly because he played here in Billings in junior hockey.)For the Islanders, my first thought was Potvin (mainly because of that weird roundish helmet), but also his teammates Mike Bossy, Brian Trottier, Clark Gilles and Billy Smith. How anyone could have "Nobody" for Minnesota blows my mind. The face of Minnesota hockey is the only man to win the NCAA Championship, Olympic Gold Medal and the Stanley Cup: Neal Broten. Can you tell I grew up in the 70s and 80s? infrared41
I don't follow the NHL closely enough to do all the teams but here are a few that immediately come to mind...NY Rangers: Mark Messier (Mike Richter is another Ranger that comes to mind)Detroit: Steve YzermanPittsburgh: Mario LemieuxNY Islanders: This one may be a little different. Mike Bossy is the obvious choice but when I think of the Islanders, Billy Smith is the first person that comes to mind.Edmonton: Gretzky. Followed by Messier, and Kurri. Gretzky is obviously the face of the franchise (probably the entire league) but when I first started following hockey the Oilers were at their peak and I always think of those three when I think of Oilers hockey.Calgary: Lanny MacDonald. (No offense to Iginla but my limited exposure to Flames hockey was filled with images of MacDonald.)Columbus: The hardcore NHL fans are really going to let me have it over this one but... Steve Heinze wearing that #57 jersey.Colorado and Montreal: Patrick RoyTold ya that I don't follow the NHL closely enough to do this right.
