In the NFL, teams whine about being snubbed.

I'd love to see an example of this.

In 2008 the Chargers won the AFC West with an 8-8 record, and thus got a playoff spot. The 11-5 Patriots lost out to the Dolphins in the AFC East race and were thus denied a playoff spot. I do recall some whining about that. Not a lot, but some.

And of course there was last year when the 7-9 Seahawks fell a$$backwards into a playoff spot by winning the NFC West while the 10-6 Buccaneers and Giants didn't get in. Again not much whining, but it was there in small quantities.

You have two ways to make the playoffs in the NFL:

1. Win your division. (Which the 2008 Patriots and 2010 Bucs didn't do.)

2. Have one of the two best records amongst the non-division winners in your conference. (Which the 2008 Patriots and 2010 Bucs didn't have.)

It's not like the requirements to make the playoffs changed midseason. I'm failing to see how an NFL team can say they were snubbed.

Not saying they were, but there was talk going into the post-season both years about how more deserving teams were left out in the cold. You asked for an example of teams whining about feeling they had been snubbed. Here's two years where something like that happened.

Was it taken to the lengths that it is in NCAA football? Not at all, but feeling as if a team has been "snubbed" is something that pops up in the NFL from time to time, on a smaller, quieter scale.

Not to willmorris it, but I hate that big time BCS schools schedule such scrubs in the first few weeks. With Oregon playing LSU and such there's no excuse for a school to drub on a low D I school or a D II school. I understand the money that they bring the smaller schools, but it's ridiculous to watch Ohio State smack Akron around and Virginia to beat up on Application State and STILL be considered for a national title.

In the Auburn game, what was the ruling on the onside kick? A player can't advance the kick? I heard the ref explaining something but wasn't quite sure what was going on.

No, you can't advance an onside kick if the opposing player didn't touch it.

Correct, if the kicking team directly gains possession from an onside kick, it cannot be advanced. Same as in HS and in the NFL.

What a frustrating end to the Utah State- Auburn game. Just. Frustrating.

**bangs head on wall violently**

They came close to beating Oklahoma in the first game last season, too. However, despite that spike of success (as well as beating BYU for the first time since 1993 - a game which I happily attended :D), they still somehow managed to stink for most of the season in true Aggie fashion. I guess we'll see whether or not this season mirrors last season.

Mike Belotti had the best explanation for the success of Auburn's onside kick. He said that Utah State probably doesn't practice that formation very often. It's not like they get in that position a lot. Still a helluva game. We're already off to a great start to the college football season.

Oh yeah, Buckeyes 42 Zips 0. Yawn. Wake me when the killing starts.

Yeah the Zips have made the Buckeyes their bitch in soccer, we figured you might as well get to beat us in one sport.

I don't like it either because the games are really boring and the people who go to these games usually only go because theyre the easiest tickets to get. So you get hillbillies who go to one game a year and scream their heads off for the 7th TD against a clearly inferior opponent. I just can't get excited about that and I don't understand the people who do.

I was offered two tickets to the OSU-Akron game and I turned them down. One, because it's hotter than the devil's asscrack today and that stadium is where old people go to get heat-stroke. Two, I have no interest in watching OSU dominate a team that won one game last year. Three, I don't like big crowds. I'll only go to an OSU game if it's Michigan or another big game, otherwise I'll have a more enjoyable time at home or with friends. Today I spent most of the OSU game watching Utah State-Auburn.

That said, one of these days one of these in-state MAC schools will beat OSU. Hell, it almost happened with my guys on my 21st birthday (OU led at the end of the 3rd quarter) When that finally does happen I'll join in with whatever school pulled it off in celebrating, but I hope it's my Bobcats.

In another case of a BCS conference team walloping a non-BCS conference team, the Bulls are kicking the tar out of their opponent.

Weren't you one of the ones last year who pointed out all FBS conferences are BCS conferences? So this is a AQ conference team beating up a non-AQ conference team.

However if a defense gives up 28 points, should a team expect to win?

With a ten point lead (38-28), Utah State still allowed they game to be taken away from them and it was defensively. If you you only give up 21 points in the first 57 minutes, you win the game.

As for Auburn, Gus Malzhan will get them points.

The THOR-Guard lightning dectecting system places Michigan Stadium and Notre Dame on lockdown.

Off topic McCarthy, how do you feel about Tettleton at QB? How do you think he's gonna fair this season.

Notre Dame is truly pathetic. QB couldn't hit the TV from my couch to save his life. Will the preseason ranking hype and piss poor season play ever stop? Just call a spade a spade already.

Also, is it necessary to show a rerun from an old Notre Dame game when others are being broadcasted?

Finally, someone who sees it my way. It doesn't matter how good Notre Dame is; until they join a conference, they will be irrelevant.

He's saying they're not good, Will. And they're not. If they joined an AQ conference it'd be even more evident.

Cola, NBC doesn't have the rights to show other games so they can't.
