Didn't need any of that. Didn't need the dark outline, and the silver muddies up a fantastic use of negative space. I think negative space works best in a simple design (think the FedEx arrow).

A simple white outline is all the original needs to look good against a dark background.

I disagree. The 1993 version of this logo was a fantastic upgrade both in colours and design. I don't think the Silver makes the "H" in the negative space any less visible just makes the scheme more palatable. Same with Navy replacing Royal Blue (One of the few instances where it's an improvement).

Agree to disagree.

I still think the revised logo has too many outlines. They emphasize the shape of the tail (giving it bizarre devil's horns), which under-emphasizes the "H". Focuses attention on the outside shape when the inside shape should be the most important.

The original had three elements - blue tail, white H, green W - in perfect balance. All had equal weight, which is why the negative space worked so well. The revisions destroyed that balance.

Wouldn't mind the navy, though.

How this thread has managed to go seven pages without so much as a mention of this logo is beyond me.

Because this is a best defunct logo thread. Are the Marinerzz defunct?

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

Gotta admit .. this one that 'DC' posted for the old Washington Senators is brilliant!!

WTF is going on with his face?

CSN Washington ran a piece last night on DC sports publicist, Presidential inaugural announcer, and former Washington Senators PA man Charlie Brotman. It highlighted his vast memorabilia collection showcasing DC's sports and political scenes. One of the items he showed off was a game program with the above logo, which Charlie said was designed by Red Auerbach's brother Zang. That strange mass above the Senator's eyes is actually supposed to be a bushy gray uni-brow.

Definitely understand where your coming from about the multiple outlines but the 1993 logo will always look better to me simply because of the colour scheme. Navy Green and Silver look spectacular together and the jerseys from that era were the best in Whalers history.
