NHL OFFSEASON - 2011

The Hawks might be reluctant to have Huet's and Olesz's dead money on the books. That's about $9 million for players who don't play here. They only got about a million for the Huet loan, as I recall.

I agree, I feel like they're willing to give Olesz a shot. He's doing a complete 180 from florida to chicago in terms of competitiveness, maybe with the new cast and crew he'll find his groove.

Will he be lined up with Frolik? Like in.....Florida???

I'm pretty sure any player that played for the Florida Panthers would play better on an original six franchise.

Worked for Horton.

Wow, CapGeek is on the ball. Processed all of tonight's trades already. So the Hawks have $14MM in space ($17.1MM if they unload Rusty), Frolik, Stalberg, Dowell, and Campoli are all RFAs, they might need money for Hendry or Johnson as a UFA, and they need money for a second goalie, unless Salak gets the next turn on the revolving door. Still seems kinda tight.

Oh, and the Panthers are still $26 million under the floor. That place is gonna turn into one hell of a retirement community, as overpaid past-their-prime vets take their talents to a swamp somewhat accessible to South Beach.

So they need to sign somebody to the exact opposite of the Rick DiPietro deal?

I look forward to the exploits of the Florcago PantherHawks, red jerseys and all.

Ex-Blackhawks, ugly red jerseys... Man, these guys really are trying to be the second coming of the Thrashers. I wouldn't be surprised if they try starting negotiations with True North come January.

But I thought Miami was more Hispanic than black.

Hey, what's Scott Gomez up to these days? Al Montoya? Maybe Angelo Esposito if we have him pronounce it "Anjelo"?

Rusty Olesz? Welcome to Rockford, DUI capital of Illinois. You'll soon find out why.

I thought it was the suicide capital of Illinois.

If that's also true, now they've got a twofer!

Blue Jackets trade Nikita Filatov to Ottawa for the 66th pick.

Glad to get rid of that headcase, and another product of the Blue Jackets poor scouting department.

Ouch. That's brutal.

Now the dirt about the Carter situation starts to come out. Dude loved to party, and loved the shore. Guess he'll get over it and report to Columbus, but I'd hate to get a guy who is so jacked about being moved.

Maybe he won't get over it. The Blue Jackets suck and Columbus sucks. Go ahead, make a stink. Maybe we'll get The Jeff Carter Rule in the next CBA now.

As a Wild fan, I must say I do love the trade they made. Its about time Chuck Fletcher did something to make this team better. Does anyone know if Setoguchi is an enforcer or not really?
