Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

Jagr to Montreal?

I know the media does this every year, but like my member title says, I can dream, eh? I remember when they did the same thing with Vincent Lecavalier before his performance started to decline. Maybe one day, the Habs will hit a bullseye and finally sign a top guy.

Hoping the blackhawks grab Miller in the draft, or at the least a center. Wouldn't be surprised if they made a move up, also.

Wait, Jaromir Jagr is STILL considered a top guy?

In KHL, Jagr will ALWAYS be top!

New cap is 64 million with a floor of 48. The floor is awfully high and I'm not sure how team like Phoenix and Columbus can afford that. This is something the NHL needs to look at when the CBA expires. Oh well, more money for the Canucks to spend, maybe they won't need to bury Ballard in the minors.

This means that the Habs might get one of those teams to take Gomez's contract. Big cap hit, but paying actually less than the cap hit (not for 2011-2012, but the other 2 seasons).

Four times IHL Nielson Cup Champions - Montréal Shamrocks (2008-2009 // 2009-2010 // 2012-2013 // 2014-2015)

Five times TNFF Confederation Cup Champions - Yellowknife Eagles (2009 CC VI // 2010 CC VII // 2015 CC XII // 2017 CC XIV // 2018 CC XV)

48 to 64. Aaaaoooooogah. So if my math is right, the 2006 cap was about 30 to 39? Gee, I'm glad nobody in the failing hootervilles learned functions in high school algebra; they really could've put a stop to their own demises.

I don't think the Coyotes even made $48 million either of the last two years.

EDIT: the 2006 floor was 21.45, not 30. Super-yikes.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

So it looks like were back to pre-lockout numbers.

Yeah, I'm actually kind of worried that this could bring about another long lockout, and if that happens again, kiss this POS league goodbye. Even with the NBC contract, it's still a handful of teams carrying the water for the rest of the league and driving up costs for the stragglers. They need to significantly lower or altogether eliminate the salary floor or else they're going to choke out their own business partners, unless that was the plan all along, which in some sense wouldn't surprise me because nothing surprises me with these chuckleheads anymore. I shudder to think of the next CBA implementing a cost-certainty system even more onerous than the one we already have.

If I remember correctly, around lock-out time Detroit, Colorado, Toronto, Philadelphia and the Rangers lead the way in salary with about 65-75 mil each. We are getting close to those numbers.

What is the floor for this year?

I don't know, there wasn't a hard cap before the lockout. I don't even think there was a soft cap on team payroll, just strongly worded advice on rookie salaries.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/salaries/totalpayroll.aspx?year=2003-04

Wings were spending almost $78 mil in '04. Other than Dallas and Colorado yielding to Pittsburgh and Chicago, sure looks like the usual suspects at the top, doesn't it.
