And the only reason I'm saying any of this is because we're going to be having this same goddamned discussion after these same fans trash the city next time. The Canucks are capable of bouncing back and making another run next year. Are we?

If and when Vancouver gets back to this position, there'll be no tolerance. No large viewing parties, a curfew maybe. It makes me sick but it's clearly aware that this city cannot congregate in a peaceful matter.

So taking Lee's lead, my facial hair, trash can, sink, car door, and my rubber band ball were all victims of my personal rioting B).

you reap what you sew.

tough :censored:.

Yeah sorry, all this nonsense about how the rioters weren't real Canucks fans and about how the riot wasn't caused by the Canucks losing has got to stop. They were Canucks fans. The riot was caused by the game. It's a s****y reality, but it's true. After the Giants won the World Series people rioted. It was mostly younger people, but to say they weren't Giants fans isn't correct. They were rioting because they WERE Giants fans. Sure people will take the opportunity to loot and riot when they get the opportunity, but it's not like a bunch of people who never watch hockey, or as Tank said "who don't know the difference between a slapshot and stickhandling" (or something like that) were sitting in the shadows waiting to pounce once the game was over ready to ruin the time of true Vancouver Canucks fans. They were rioting because they were pissed off bceause their team lost. Supposedly this all started when some pissed off fans started throwing empty beer bottles at the big screens on the street as the game was winding down. Remember now, sports fans can be dickheads too.

I honestly don't look at this incident as a reflection of the Canucks fan base. Everyone has stupid fans. But I do see this as a reflection of the city of Vancouver as a whole. Watching video from the 1994 riots and last night showed large groups of people that were dangerously reckless when it came to property, order, and even their own personal safety. In one of the videos posted here the reporter said that part of the riot escalated when some idiot climbed a telephone pole, tried to do a high wire act, and fell. Really? Who's so f***ing stupid that they'd risk their life by climbing a telephone pole with a tin foil Stanley Cup and trying to walk across the telephone wires? Does hockey really mean that much to people up there? Either way, the 1994 riots should've been an indication to the Vancouver Police of what to expect. From the looks of it, it wasn't.

Really sad to see from a city that seemingly handled the Olympics so well.

Well I think the difference is you had people from all around the country fixed upon a single country, not a regional hockey team.

Watching the Chief of Police speak he says it only took them 3 hours to settle things down, compared to 6 in 1994.

Wearing a jersey doesn't make you a fan. Everybody and their dog has a jersey around here. Yes, there WERE Canucks fans there, no denying it, but the riots weren't about the loss, they were just fueled by it. This wasn't a bunch of angry Canucks fans after a loss, it was a bunch of opportunistic pricks who took advantage of the situation. The whole thing could have been handled much better by VPD but this is disgusting. All the pride I had in my city after the Olympics and this cup run is shattered. I'm absolutely ashamed.

He's trying to defend his city. Some people are like lemmings they see something that excites them and goes for it. Of course your going to have Canuck merch in the crowd after a Game 7 loss in the Cup Final. The Chief said the main group that started the riot were an Anarchist group, yes they're were Canucks supporters there. But I'm sure if this happened in any other city the inhabitants of it on CCSLC would defend it just as Lee is for Vancouver.

Yes this is one big black eye on a beautiful city, but there are a lot more good Canadians and Vancouverites that won't stand for this :censored: and it shows with the Facebook picture group and the clean up Vancouver group. They'll repair themselves.

Vancouver handled the Olympics because you have law enforcement from all over the country present.

I'm not going to condemn the entire Vancouver Canucks fanbase, but still. Jesus Christ people. What about the outcome of a sporting event would drive people to riot? I just don't get it.

I'm in agreement with you, this is unacceptable, and it's a black mark on the city of Vancouver. The funny thing is that this is supposed to be one of the most progressive cities in the country. And all it takes is losing a hockey game to transform it into Snake Plisken's worst nightmare. The one thing I will take you to task for is using this indefensible riot to decry those obviously decadent Canadian teams in the name of sunbelt expansion. That's all kinds of weak.

That's an ironic statement coming from you, considering every one of your posts has been bitching about the Thrashers moving to Winnipeg.

This riot was caused by a combination of Canucks fans and anarchists. I don't think regular Canucks fans would show up wearing paintball masks to conceal their faces...the only anonymous ones were the Green Men, and they would easy to pick out in the crowd.

It's horrifying at the least. And, from what I read, made it extremely dangerous for people to get out of there.

Some people are hellbent for destruction, regardless of the situation.
