UnclearInitial
So what is it going to take for UEFA to suggest that maybe Italy take international play off for awhile until they stop, like, rigging games?Monti is talking about suspending pro soccer for 2 or 3 years. Yeah, lets kill the most popular sport in the country because 5 middle of the table teams fixed games. While it's never going to happen, there would probably be mass rebellions if it happened and the economy would really go down the drain. ( on the other hand, Italians could start be productive again with no soccer).

Kevin W.
Suspending the entire sport for three years? Is he insane? Juventus already got their punishment 6 years ago, and the only team that was involved in Calciopoli that also has a part in this is Lazio, which is why they're probably either going to have a HUGE handicap next season, get relegated, or be forced to shut down the senior team.Edit: also, it seems pretty stupid to punish hundreds of not guilty clubs and players who had nothin to do with this for the actions of a select few.Edit 2: ZEMAN!!!!! rams80
Well, I wasn't suggesting shutting down Serie A so much as barring Italian teams from Champions League and Europa League play and Italy from Euro tournament and the World Cup until they figure out how to say no to the Mafia. NEW.ERA
UEFA would never ban the Italian National Team, Serie A on the other hand maybe. Like still let them have a season, but get rid of the Italian presence on the continental stage. That keeps the revenue, but nobody actually wins anything. And ban them from the Champions League for x amount of years? Though I really don't know much about the match fixing scandal other than Juventus being relegated like six years ago.

Like still let them have a season, but get rid of the Italian presence on the continental stage....much like was done with England after Heysel. That's what I was thinking. It seems like it would be a more appropriate punishment for this, since the teams could have done something to stop the fixing if they knew about it, whereas Heysel was out of their control. NEW.ERA
Similar to Heysel, maybe not 5 years, but I think three would suffice.Let them have their Coppa Italia and Serie A season just crown a champ there, but keep them out of Europe.EDIT - And because it was brought up. Today is actually the 27th anniversary of that day. I wasn't alive, but have heard the stories, and read about it. MJWalker45
They couldn't pull any more senior players in? I understand these guts were in camp but better players are available. They only stopped playing league games 3 weeks ago.
