2011 NFL Season

A little strange, but I was happy to see Stafford take a hit last night. I mean, I never want my team's QB to get hit, but I think the reassurance of Staff getting back up was nice to see.

Wasn't it? I feel good for him, came into this season with a lot to prove and he has somehow managed to do it in the preseason.

I don't know that I'd say he's proven anything yet, except that the potential for him (and the Lions) is through the roof right now. God, I hate being this excited and optimistic.

It does feel good doesn't it. Also vmd9, let me know when the Browns make any noise this year from the cellar? At least the Lions can rise from the Ashes while the Browns are still in the ashes from the Ravens. I wouldn't call Suh a dirty player quite yet. I think he is still growing and trying to harness his skill for the NFL level. Granted if he is still like this at the end of the season. I would say he is a dirty player. But right now give him a year and see what happens

Yeah compare a 5-11 team to a 6-10 team. Like I said before they are both terrible, and the only difference is Cincy is the cellar of our division and the Lions are the cellar of theirs.

The Lions have been the cellar for the past decade and have not even sniffed the playoffs, and no one outside of a few dumbasses on here think they are any good.

*checks the number of AFC North Division titles won by the Browns*

Yep, still 0.

Michael Vick. 6 years. $100,000,000. 40 mil guaranteed.

He doesn't see this contract to completion, but still, yikes!

Yeah the Eagles backloaded the hell out of that contract. The sixth year of that deal he'll probably be owed about $20 million. No way a 37 year old Michael Vick is getting paid $20 million. They'll probably get about three or fours years into the deal before it gets restructured or he gets released.

The Eagles are trying to win now though, not in five years and they actually do save some money in the short run as hard as that is to believe. Vick was not under contract and the only way for the Eagles to keep him was to hit him with the franchise tag which would have cost them a little over $16 million. This deal saves them about $1.5 million for this season.

If this were baseball I'd say it was a dumb deal, but in the NFL the money listed has as much actual bearing as monopoly money does. Maybe it will bite them down the road, but they got to go for it now because that team is as good as they are ever going to get.

First thing Vick did with all of that money (well, after paying his debt) is get a new puppy.

I'd be fond of him having a Daschund... I mean, who doesn't love wiener dogs?

People who live in houses with lots of stairs.

As for Vick, has he ever finished an entire season without missing games due to injury? Ever?

The way Vick plays the game, I don't see him being a top-tier starter at quarterback in three years, let alone six.

He's actually not allowed to own a dog. They didn't really need to do this deal, as they are apparently allowed to franchise the same guy 3 or more (not sure if there's a limit) times, but this frees up that tag for DeShawn Jackson. I don't think the money savings will be enough to fit him in right now, but either way, Vick's deal had to be done first before any more moves were made. I'm not a Michael Vick fan (on the field at least - off the field, I really hope he can become an example of our system working), but this deal could have been seen from 10 miles away, it was just a matter of when the ink would hit the paper. It's in line with what's happening in the NFL, NBD.

Exactly, it frees up DeShawn, but the Fitzgerald deal totally ups the costs for a top 5 WR. Larry and the Cardinals blew up how much to pay a WR and even a RB. Larry's previous contract (before last week) did not allow him to be a Franchise Player; the Cards had to give $$$ to him or lose him freely and thus ruin the skill position system of compensation. Poor CJ2K!

As for Vick and PHL, just look here.

Can't compare the two positions. Receivers can play the game at a high level for a decade or longer, often times. Most running backs are considered to be on the wane once they hit age 28.

And that is what Johnson and his agent is saying. The average longevity of a RB is longer than what he has given them.

Plus, the Titans beat down Eddie George before so CJ2K realizes he needs to get a better bonus and has performed much better than every RB drafted before him.

I thought I just heard Jim Rome say Arian Foster tore his hammy. Whoa.

That sucks for the guy who drafted him in my league, but man, the Texans can't seem to catch a break can they? Finally, when it seems the defense might make strides and the team is fairly healthy and they lose their starting runningback or he'll be severly limited even after he recovers.

If the Texans don't make the playoffs this year they might just be the greatest offense/team to never qualify for the playoffs in NFL History.

Terrelle Pryor scored a 7 on is Wonderlic. If you remember back Vince Young got 6.

Link

This is the average by position.

Offensive tackle ? 26

Center ? 25

Quarterback ? 24 (Most teams want at least 21 for a quarterback.)

Guard ? 23

Tight end ? 22

Safety ? 19

Linebacker ? 19

Cornerback ? 18

Wide receiver ? 17

Fullback ? 17

Halfback ? 16

And this is an average for other professions

Chemist ? 31

Programmer ? 29

Journalist ? 26

Sales ? 24

Bank teller ? 22

Clerical worker ? 21

Security guard ? 17

Warehouse ? 14

I mean Wonderlic really doesn't tell the whole story on a player's ability to play, but still 7?

Got my SI in the mail today and like Saints fans everywhere, threw up a little in my mouth when I saw the headline and regional cover...

loftonSIcoverembed.jpg

I'm happy for Curtis Lofton though, the former Sooner and a damn good LB.

The cover has that weird red tinting to it and it amuses me how his pants stripe is turned around on the front of his knee.

Does the jinx work on all six teams featured on the various covers? :D
