TFoA
Just throwing this out there... the retro uniforms VT has been wearing for the past two years look awful. VT is a "modern" school in my eyes, throwbacks just don't work for them. There was nothing wrong with either of these uniform sets:I agree that the Marcus Vick-era VT jerseys actually looked nice (I have no idea why, but VT just looked right with that template in that moment. It's unexplainable. ), but the 2nd uniform set was an absolute mess. From the numbers to the striping, they just looked bad, IMO. Here's how I'd rank the 3:1: Throwbacks (Shoulder hoops are probably my favorite uniform design in all of football, so I'm a sucker for it.)2: Marcus Vick-era900000001: That other stuff. LetsGoOakland9
Uniform related, I think of it as something iconic, like Oregon's wings or Alabama's numbers on the helmet, something that you could take the name off of and still easily know what it is. App State is a generic template hardly fits that but thats just how I view it

I just can't imagine them wearing anything else. Why you make fun of me? I make concept for Auburn champions and you make fun of me. winghaz
I wouldn't label Oregon's wings as iconic. Unique, yes. But those wings have only been on the unis for one or two years.
LetsGoOakland9
Yes maybe iconic isn't the right word for them, but they are easily identifiable, even without the O

They were so simple, but managed to be unique by the little touch of making the sleeve numbers inverted from the front and back numbers. IMO, they should still be wearing these. knnhrvy16
Those are still my favorites as well, McCarthy. They looked so sharp in those, and had they kept the inverted numbers into the present day, that could have become "thiers" as far as identifiable uniform elements goes (a la FSU's Spear and Oregon's wings). I'd take the Vick era over anything the Hokies have worn since. The only thing I'd have changed about those uniforms would be to add some sort of stripes to the pants, like a maroon-white-orange or maroon-thin white-orange-thin white-maroon. Then they'd have been perfect. The opinions I express are mine, and mine only. If I am to express them, it is not to say you or anyone else is wrong, and certainly not to say that I am right. FiddySicks
I've always been of the thought that VT has by far the worst colors of any school in the country. There's just something about that shade of maroon they use that has just always looked off when paired with orange. It reminds me of 1970s interior design. knnhrvy16
Personally, I think of autumn and thanksgiving when I see VT's colors, and I'm not even kidding. I get the itch for turkey and pumpkin pie when I see them (okay, maybe not THAT bad, but close ). Seems like a dumb and silly thing to say I know, but they just have that autumn-y vibe to me. ONUV
the vick era uniform was too plain. everybody shouldn't be like penn state.
DCDuck
VT's identity has been a mess from the get-go. Nobody knows what the hell a Hokie Bird is, not even in Virginia. They don't really have a consistent wordmark, and they can't decide on what they want their overall "look" to be. Add to that the fact that they seem to have a new uniform set in football every single season, and it just adds to the confusion.
gdu
Plus I think we'd be the run away uniform winner for that game (yes I'm biased)As an impartial observer, I agree. Ohio would be the uniform winner in a landslide. Seriously, what is up with Toledo's gigantic number and NOB?Only if you ignore those black disasters. From a branding/marketing perspective it is usually a good idea to stay with the look most identifiable with your most successful period.
gdu
I liked the pro combat version of App State's gold better. That's probably just me thoughI was just wondering why they weren't wearing that... why aren't they? I despise that Miami templateIIRC, they auctioned them off after wearing them last year.
