a3uge
This is bizarre and perhaps illegal. In the sixth inning of the Pirate vs Brewers game, the Brewers sent pitcher Zack Grienke in to pinch hit. He bunted on the first pitch and went back to the dugout. The strange part: he was wearing a uniform with 'Bierbrauer' on the front, instead of the 'Brewers' script the other players were wearing. The Brewers will wear 'Bierbrauer' to honor their German heritage tomorrow.Does anyone have a screencap of this? Isn't this illegal for a player to wear a different jersey mid-game? Gothamite
It's happened accidentally a couple times before. I remember a time when the Mets had black road alts and black home alts, and a few players took the field in the wrong ones. But what the hell was Greinke doing pinch-hitting today? Pitchers tend to be better bunters, anyways, because when they take BP, that's what they focus on.
Bouj
The Astros have done it a couple of time, confusing the brick alt and their BP. I know Orlando Palmeiro did it.

Gothamite
I'll have a picture tonight. Pitchers tend to be better bunters, anyways, because when they take BP, that's what they focus on.Makes sense, but I wouldn't have thought him the one to call, having been an AL pitcher until this season. And he threw last night. So calling on him today seems off.
ReRocky4228
He was pinch-hitting for starting pitcher Marco Estrada and laid down a sacrifice bunt.
a3uge
To add to the weirdness of the situation: Marco Estrada had a 1-hitter after 5-innings with only 60-some pitches thrown. He was starting for Chris Narveson who went on the 15-day DL after slicing his thumb repairing his glove. Since Estrada was on a short leash, they wanted to pull him after 5 innings, but he was batting in a bunt situation. They elected to bunt regardless, but sent a better bunting pitcher up there. I doubt Greinke ever expected to be inserted into the game, being a starting pitcher who pitched last night. He wore his pull-over jacket before and after the at-bat, so I think he was wearing the jersey as a joke or something.
Gothamite
Here you go. This is back in the dugout, after he laid down the sacrifice:Not the clearest photo of his jersey, but I wanted to include some others in the frame so you can see he's wearing the wrong one. The announcers noticed, and his bunt (with uni commmentary) is one of the game highlights in the At Bat ap.
FiddySicks
Thank's for the At Bat tip, Gothamite. Here's a bit better look at the script taken directly from that highlightGreinke's reaction after he laid down the bunt makes me feel like he knew what he did. Gothamite
Maybe, or maybe he was just pleased with himself for advancing the runner. At Bat is the greatest ap ever.

nmsuaggie
At least the Brewers do it right. They go out and translate the team name into the foreign language. I hate it when teams put los in front of their names thinking it should appeal to hispanics.
ldswoosh33
I think its very creative for teams to do stuff like this... Such as the Los Mets or El Spurs. Come on Denver teams get on board.
