hawk36
Just heard today that the Seahawks are giving 25% discounts on a new jersey to those who turn in a jersey featuring a player no longer on the team. Interesting concept. Anyone else heard of this type of promotion from a team? Guess the team didn't want the stands filled with Hasselbeck and Tatupu jerseys which dominate the scene in Seattle.Nice and all but I'd rather keep my perfectly fine #51 Tatupu jersey than get 25% off a new one featuring another player who probably won't be here next year. Good marketing ploy though. Design Hovie Studios

FiddySicks
I want to say the Thrashers did this once where they would give fans a new Thrashers replica jersey for free (or at a big discount) in exchange for a jersey from any other team. waltere
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright announced today that anyone who bought the new season's home kit with the names of players who left over the summer will be able to claim a refund, seems like much more of a genuine gesture than that of the Seahawks, as it's not reliant on purchasing more merchandise. 1 hour ago, BringBackTheVet said: sorry sweetie, but I don't suck minor-league d CCSLC Post of the day September 3rd 2012
zer0dotcom
The Toronto Maple Leafs would routinely do this after losing a player, as would the Blue Jays. The Leafs would sell traded player jerseys for $50 flat (close to a 75% discount) while the jays would take 50% off a traded player uniform. walby2
I recall once when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers sent popular RB Charles Roberts to the BC Lions, they said they would not be discounting old Roberts Bombers jerseys so as not to "disrespect" Roberts.I remember thinking at the time, "good luck with that". The Roberts jerseys eventually disappeared from the team shop's shelves, although I don't know who in their right mind would pay full price for a jersey with a name and number of a player currently on another team.Postscript: The funny thing is that the next season Kevin Glenn's gold RBK jerseys were getting blown out at $25 after he was traded to Hamilton... I guess no one was worried about "disrespecting" Glenn!
GottaDeal
Even with a 25% discount, it's still probably cheaper buying the new jersey online vs. the inflated prices the teams usually sell them for.
Luigi
cool idea. We don't have this problem in australia as all the major sports jerseys (rugby union, rugby league, footy, soccer) don't have numbers on them when you buy them. My fantasy teams: West Coast Cardinals (WRU), Glasgow Claymores (RLI) (Champions 2012) and Pemberton Foresters (VBL)
The Nation
Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner offered to cover the cost of fans who purchased his old jersey when he switched numbers from #26 to #52.Also, last year when Arsenal Striker Robin van Persie was in the midst of switching from #11 to #10, the official Arsenal Online Shop had a notice telling fans of this impending number change, so fans didn't unknowingly buy his old jersey. It's refreshing when clubs don't treat their customers like idiots. Reading that bit about the bombers "not disrespecting" their old player is angering.

In retrospect, I think this (25% discount offer) is ending up looking worse and worse for the Seahawks. Like the ploy that it is rather than genuine concern for fans. Backfire. Lee.
The Seahawks will be good in a year or two. They need to tank hard enough to get a QB that's NFL ready, unlike Tavares Jackson. Welcome to DrunjFlix
Rockstar Matt
That's pretty cool that these teams are doing this. Something similar happened to me. Back in 2003, my mom bought me an Antonio Bryant #88 Cowboys jersey. I wore that sucker all of the time until Bryant was no longer a Cowboy. I considered selling the jersey but, for some reason, I didn't. Now, since the Cowboys have Dez Bryant, I can wear the jersey again. Glad I didn't sell it.
