The Red Sox have acquired Andrew Bailey from Oakland... Details to come.
Josh Reddick goes to Oakland as part of this deal.

I was just about to post in this thread how the Red Sox haven't made any noise this off season... I feel a lot better knowing that the Sox have a closer. I will miss Reddick and I wish him the best with the A's. Curious to see who else the Sox gave up in the deal.

A's get: Josh Reddick, Miles Head, & Raul Alcantera

Sox get: Andrew Bailey & Ryan Sweeney

EDIT: Just fangraphed the two prospects the A's got. Both incredibly young and have played well at rookie and A ball. Not sure of potential, but they look like some pretty solid prospects. They fit perfectly into the A's plans.

Trade everyone the second they have any value.. is that the A's plan?

From what I can tell A's are a farm team for the rest of baseball.. they have no interest in being a winning ball club themselves.

It's unreal the amount of talent they have traded over the years. With nothing to show for it.

If they do get the stadium in San Jose that'll all change I think. They've been absolutely floundering in Oakland as they directly compete with the San Francisco teams for fans. The Giants and A's are the two closest teams in the league as you can actually see both stadiums from one another. San Jose is easily the biggest city in the Bay Area and I believe it would be something like the fifth largest TV market in MLB if you combine the full bay area market. The A's would be able to keep at least 95% of their current fans while gaining a huge amount more. The distance between AT&T Park and the new park in San Jose will still be less than it is between the Baltimore and DC parks. This latest insurgence of youth (that's hard to say with a straight face) could help the A's be competitive immediately when they move to the new park without having to break the bank like Miami did. I still don't think they're going to get the new park though. I'll believe it when I see it.

You sound like one of the sports analysts from Moneyball right now. Beane knows what he's doing. In fact, I might even predict Oakland to finish over .500 this season.

But why would the city of San Jose even want to take in a team that waives the white flag every year? Fans don't want to see a team that doesn't try to remain competitive, especially when they're new to town. Billy/Moneyball doesn't work anymore. The team is an absolute total joke. If I'm San Jose, I tell the Athletics "Thanks, but no thanks."

The A's have the full San Francisco Bay Area market already. This is just quibbling over real estate.

San Jose wants an MLB team. That's about their only requirement.

Yankee Stadium to Citi Field is closer than AT&T Park to Oakland Coliseum.

Could any A's fans here give me the low-down on this Ryan Sweeney guy?

Once upon a time he was a hot prospect in the White Sox organization. Supposed to have a beautiful swing. Never did much for the ChiSox. Can't speak to his time in Oakland.

Assume he was in the Swisher deal?

I'm pretty sure Angel Stadium and Dodger Stadium are closer too.

I'm pretty sure you can already figure this out, but the A's are cheap. The Coliseum is the worst stadium in baseball, and they've had some problems with attendance. Once they get a new stadium, they'll be making more $$, so they'll be able to compete.
