Detroit will be a wild card team, at best. You'll see the overweight out of shape lineup won't last very long...

Then who the hell is gonna win the AL Central? Everybody else sucks, basically. The Tigers will win it and the Royals will finish last. Who finishes 2nd-4th is anybody's guess and completely irrelevant.

Actually, unless Mauer and Morneau miraculously revert to 2006 form, the Twins are looking like they will spend the next few years in last place. They lost 99 games last year and finished 8 behind the Royals. While I don't think the Royals are going to compete for a few years if then, the Twins are in for some bad times.

Good news is that he is not expected to be the closer. He has signed a 1 yr deal.

That is going to give them a devastating late inning combo of Storen, Clippard and Lidge.

This is a team that I really think has a chance to contend for the division title in the NL East. This was a .500 team is now going to have two front starters in Gonzalez and Strasburg, an upgraded bullpen and maybe Bryce Harper. They really look good coming into '12

Fixed.

A World Series team at best? Ok Lebron James. Let's actually play the season first before we start crowning champions.

Tampa Bay's Starting rotation can run faster than Fielder and Cabrera and will strike out both of them like last year. If the Rays can get a solid hitter in a trade like Eric Hosmer, Andrew McCutchen, or both, we could challenge the Angels or Tigers for the pennant. For this to happen we might get rid of Upton and some of our young, but not needed pitching. We also need to extend both of them to make the Rays a pernnial pennant winning team.

I don't think the Fielder signing is going to improve the Tigers all that much.

Its a decent upgrade over Martinez offense wise, but your giving alot back defensively. Your essentially losing your backup catcher and downgrading defensively both your first and third baseman.

If I was the Tigers I would go after a guy like Scott Rolen. I don't think the Reds are that thrilled with Chris Heisey in left. The Tigers have Delmon Young who they could afford to part ways with because they do have some depth in the outfield. The Reds also have Todd Frazier playing behind Rolen who's a decent prospect so they could probably afford to lose Rolen. Can fill out the rest of the deal but Rolen for Young as a centerpiece I don't think would be a bad move for either team. The Tigers could then move Cabrera back to first and make Fielder the DH. Right now your looking one of if not the worst defensive corner infield combos in baseball and its going to be a problem during the season if that's what they are going with.

Sorry to burst your bubble but they will not contend for the East Title but will hang with the big boys (Phillies, Marlins and Braves) for much of the season. Now 2013 is when things will get interesting.

People think by acquiring 1 or 2 free agents it automatically makes a team a contender. It just doesn't work, in any sport! Ask the Eagles, Redsox, Heat, Knicks, and Clippers. By adding Fielder they did the same thing as the Angels, risked a ton of money on a position that already had a solid starter in place. Detroit had Cabrera, so why sign Fielder? People completely ignore the fact that they have no pitching outside of Verlander and Valverde, and places of dire need at shortstop, catcher and the outfield.

The Heat, Clippers, and to a lesser extent, the Knicks are pretty poor examples. The Heat are coming off a trip to the Finals, the Knicks made the playoffs last year, and the current Clippers roster has played a whopping 15 games together (and are currently the 4th-best team in the West, BTW).

Ignore vmd9, he's just Clevetrolling as usual.

But seriously, the Tigers were very nearly a World Series team last year, and look to be just as good, if not better this year. Plus as has already been said the AL Central apart from them is pretty much a pile of abject suck. I think the Indians are the 2nd best team in the Central right now, but a LONG way back from the Tigers.

Incidentally as a Mets fan, the future scares me right now, not only are we average to worse, but we're in possibly the most loaded division in baseball for at least the next few years. Ouch.

Right now the Mets right are engaging in the initial steps of what companies usually do before filing for bankruptcy protection, so its about to hit the fan. In a way it can be taken as good news because it means the Wilpons are on their last legs. I said earlier I don't see the Wilpons lasting the season owning the Mets and I still stand by that.

The financial situation is a whole other bad thing, although frankly the quicker the Wilpons are gone the better. The biggest problem is right now this team, especially in this division, is just not good enough.

If I makes you feel it probably wouldn't matter what division the Mets were in. They would be cellar dwellers no matter what.

The only saving grace for them is that they probably have the best guy you can get in Sandy Alderson for being a GM in this type of a situation. He'll save that team from reverting to their late 70's status. Once the Wilpons are gone I think the situation will improve pretty quickly. The Mets can get the big time international prospects and free agents. It won't take them long to be competitive again. Right now though you just have an owner that's clearly running the team as a cash cow, so forget winning more then 75 games. On the bright side though its probably going to be pretty easy to get tickets, because I expect Citi Field to be a ghost town this year.

One thing that the media totally ignored when they crowned the Red Sox unbeatable before they had one anything is that while they pulled in two big free agent signings, Crawford and Gonzalez, the lost both Victor Martinez and Adrian Beltre.

With the Tigers, this is a similar situation in that while Fielder is a great bat to add to the lineup, all you are really gaining is how much better he is than Victor Martinez, who he is replacing.

That being said, the Tigers are in a much different situation heading into this year than the Red Sox were heading into 2011. The Tigers won their division by a landslide last year and came two wins from the World Series. That's a pretty strong base to build off of. The Tigers should be able to win a weak division with ease and should be a tough team to beat in October with the American League MVP and Cy Young award winner as their staff ace, along with a very underrated remaining rotation.

Hmmm, once a new owner comes in we SHOULD be able to get back to signing top free agents and all, so hopefully this funk shouldn't last too long. Although as I say the Braves are perennially good, as are the current Phillies, the Marlins have made a huge splash in the free agent market and if that team plays to it's potential they could be scary good, and the Nats seem to building towards a very strong future whilst we just sit there and suck. Even with a proper owner on board it'll be tough.

For the record I don't think this seasons Mets would achieve much in ANY division, just that the one we are in is so goddamn loaded it exacerbates the issue massively.

Tampa Bay was 1-6 against Detroit last year.

Not really sure what you were getting at.
