NJTank
Detroit will be a world series team, at best. You'll see the power filled, deadly lineup will last very long... Fox
Rays perennial world series contenders? I don't know about perennial, but I do think they have a decent shot in 2012 with all of their pitching They seem to really be flying under the radar. Kramerica Industries
World Series team "at best" isn't actually saying anything. oddball
If you think Fielder is a downgrade at 1st, you've never seen him play. He's actually a very mobile player. Don't let the size fool you. Moving Cabrera to third is questionable, but still it's not like Inge is Mike Schmidt or even Ron Cey. Yes, Fielder does upgrade offensively, but offensively they still don't have a good lead off hitter. And yes, they have more than Verlander and Valverde. Scherzer, Porcello, and Fister were quality pitchers. IF Detroit didn't have any pitchers besides Verlander and Valverde, why did they finish ahead of Cleveland in just about every pitching category and why did they end up with more wins than Cleveland. Someone explain that to me. Oh yeah, that's right, because Cleveland fan is frustrated that his team has NO pitching whatsoever!

Fixed.A World Series team at best? Ok Lebron James. Let's actually play the season first before we start crowning champions.People think by acquiring 1 or 2 free agents it automatically makes a team a contender. It just doesn't work, in any sport! Ask the Eagles, Redsox, Heat, Knicks, and Clippers. By adding Fielder they did the same thing as the Angels, risked a ton of money on a position that already had a solid starter in place. Detroit had Cabrera, so why sign Fielder? People completely ignore the fact that they have no pitching outside of Verlander and Valverde, and places of dire need at shortstop, catcher and the outfield.Except that the Tigers won the division last year and nobody else in the Central has done anything to improve. https://dribbble.com/MakaioCall

TheOldRoman
we got rid of Ozzie, that's an improvement......A large improvement in clubhouse attitude alone. Also, it is much more likely Adam Dunn and Alex Rios hit closer to at least their previous career lows than reproduce their 2011 (Dunn's OPS was 250 below and Rios' was 78 points below their previous career lows). I'm not saying the Sox are going to win the division, but not having someone put up the worst statistical season of all time (along with a manager playing him every day to spite the GM) will go a long way. Shumway
Probably Roy Oswalt or Edwin Jackson at this point. Neither of which is a huge prize, but solid back-end of the rotation guys (unless Oswalt proves to be injury free).
