The city of Orlando once was home to the Orlando Solar Bears of the IHL. When the league folded, the Solar Bears were NOT one of the teams dissolved into the American Hockey League, leaving the residents without a team of any kind. That has now changed. Today the league and mayor announced that Orlando has been granted an expansion franchise that will begin play in 2012-2013 (along with the San Francisco Bulls). Hopefully the Bulls are successful. Does the San Francisco Spiders ring a bell? A Stockton Thunder-Bulls rivalry could be in the offering. Does anyone really want to go to the Cow Palace a night in that part of Daly City?

The Solar Bears were the first hockey team I ever started following......when they folded in 2000, I loved hockey to the point that I started cheering for what was then a very horrid team in the Tampa Bay Lightning (whom I've cheered for ever since). I'm excited to see that big-time minor league hockey will be returning to O-town.....I''ll support them, along with the Bolts, of course!

The owners of the Orlando franchise should go with the Solar Bears name. It's a great logo, has history & would possibly bring people back in if marketed right.

That man is the guy who owns the Orlando Magic, so if he's buying the ECHL team to flesh out dates at his building, they could well be the Solar Bears. I'd be in favor of that. It's a good cute minor-league hockey name.

The ECHL BoG made it official today. And the website OrlandoProHockeyisBack.com is in Solar Bears colors

I saw that, and it made my afternoon.

I know they better do one thing: they MUST bring back the capitalized Nameonbacks. They MUST bring that back.

(That and the numbers better be italicized, too.)

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Truth.

Check out the black alternate, where the names are triple-layer, vertically-arched lowercase, and the top layer is glacier twill. Talk about labor-intensive. Also note that they de-italicized the numerals so they'd match the names. Like the design or not, that shows thought and attention to detail.

EDIT: Does anyone happen to know if this is the numeral font used by the XFL's Chicago Enforcers? They look awfully similar.
