WSU151
Made this based on the Poke's September 11th decalsThat's one of the best pumpkins I've ever seen man. Phenomenal. Almost looks fake...as in "Someone really did that?!" That's how good it is. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half. TheOldRoman
How do you carve pumpkins like the Wyoming one above, where some areas are completely detached? Do you chisel halfway through the width of the pumpkin or something?

Gobbi
How do you carve pumpkins like the Wyoming one above, where some areas are completely detached? Do you chisel halfway through the width of the pumpkin or something? You just score the peel of the pumpkin and then chisel those areas off. If you scrape out the inside of the pumpkin a lot then the light still shines through the flesh. That's the way I did my Johnny Canuck one. It allows for way more possibilities as you aren't limited to keeping everything attached. It's the only way I'll carve mine anymore.

Then I use a little tool I picked up that is used for etching things. It has various heads you can put on that all are V shaped. You can just do the outlines. By etching the skin your pumpkins last about twice as long, or longer if you spray with hair spray lol. Not to mention you can make some great pumpkins.
