I can't say I'm suprised, but it will still be strange not seeing him in the dugout though.

Gotta tip your cap to the man for an INCREDIBLE career, one of the best of this generation. He's obviously more than a shoo-in for Cooperstown.

The opinions I express are mine, and mine only. If I am to express them, it is not to say you or anyone else is wrong, and certainly not to say that I am right.

Way to go out a winner!

I know this is wayyyyyy too early to be discussing this, but who are some possibilities to replace him as manager?

Terry Francona?

Naw. More than likely Jose Oquendo. He's been the 3rd base coach for a number of years and the players are very familiar with him. He also did a pretty good job managing Puerto Rico in both WBC's. LaRussa was probably the best manager to have in place to get Albert to stay, but Oquendo should be alright, too.

Thank god. So glad to be done with that maniac.

Yeah, like Dusty Baker is the definition of calm, cool and collected.

Btw,

Tony LaRussa's record in World Series: 3 for 6.

Dusty Baker: 0 for 1.

Wow... I'm a '80s child and I used to see La Russa as the usual A's manager. Years later he was the usual Cardinals manager...

I mean, it's like the times of our fathers and grandpas when the manager of your team was almost always the same guy. So La Russa retires and an era ends. Thank for everything (except the 1989 World Series sweep, ha!), Tony!

Ah, did anyone noticed that Tony La Russa recently managed for first time a six and/or seven-games World Series?

Don't know how Dusty Baker's record with the Giants in the World Series somehow makes McCarthy less of a person.

How did I say McCarthy was less of a person? He said LaRussa was a maniac, and thus, I pointed out the manager of his team. Seems like a pretty logical comparison to me.

Except that it's not. McCarthy didn't hire Dusty Baker, and didn't state that Baker was calm, cool, or collected. His opinion on LaRussa has nothing to do with Dusty Baker in any way shape or form.

You know, anyone who can draw this much ire from fans of teams in their division must really have been good. Even if he is a "prick" or a "maniac", the dude went to six World Series and won three of them. Maybe Cubs and Reds fans won't miss watching him manage his team in October from their couches, but I for one will miss him A LOT. I'd even go as far as to say he's my favorite manager in the game. Sure he made some poor decisions at times both on and off the field, and sure in his last few seasons he left you scratching your head more than lice, but the game really won't be the same without him around. So long, Tony. Thanks for the memories.

Wait. Are you a Cardinals fan too?
