OKC beat themselves. They gave this one to Miami. It doesn't matter how few or many free throws you get, if you can't hit them.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

The Heat did a fantastic job of responding to adversity, with their defense finally clicking at just the right moment. Sure, OKC totally choked, but a lot of it was due to being forced into bad shots by the Heat's tough team defense. Also, can we finally drop the "LeBron isn't a closer" myth? He just carried his team to another win they really had no business getting, in yet another crucial playoff game, in the Finals.

I didn't even really have an issue with the officiating. Considering how atrocious it's been during the entire playoffs this year, this was actually a pretty decently-called game by comparison. Harden getting called for a blocking foul on his obvious flop at the end was a nice touch.

Two games away from a title. What was that, haters?

But in all seriousness, the team who wins game 3 of a tied Finals goes on to win the series something like 85% of the time. The last team to win game three of a tied Finals and lose? The 2011 Heat. So don't read too much into this. But a great, necessary win for Miami, nonetheless.

The Mavericks also had a 2-0 lead on the Heat in '06 before they flubbed away that series. It's a big win for Miami, but as you said - don't get too excited.

Game 4 is the important game, if the Heat win they will be in the catbird seat a loss and its headin' to seven.

As for the lack of reaction I bet a good number of people were watching Webb Simpson snatch the U.S. Open.

I don't even know who Webb Simpson is.

I don't think there was a lack of reaction at all. People (with lives) were probably just talking about the game with friends or watching TV coverage rather than jumping straight to CCSLC.

I think the reaction on this board is probably more because a home win isn't much to get excited about, aside from Bucfan's stat.

Looking good for Lebron and the Heat, but a Thunder win takes the series back west, so it's not over yet, even with a Heat win in game 4. That being said you'd imagine the Heat learned something from last year.

OKC will still win. Officiating aside, this game was decided by trendously good free throw shooting by Miami and tremendously bad free throw shooting by OKC. Good for Miami. They did a better job of making these, but you can't count on that disparity every game. OKC is still the better team.

I can find plenty of faults with his game, but LeBron is definitely shedding the "not a closer" tag.

Definitely. LeBron has had a great playoffs. He and Durant have obviously been the two best players from each conference.

How come when Miami wears all white it doesn't look as lame as OKC?

I would argue that the Heat were the better team last year, and ironically enough, the Mavericks were the better team in 2006.

The better team doesn't always win. The more opportunistic team always wins.

I'm pretty sure 3 MVP awards, 8 All-Star selections, 6 All-NBA First Team selections, 4 All-Defensive First Team selections, et al. at only 27 years old is more than enough to prove that LeBron is one of the all-time greatest individual players in the NBA. If he retired today, he'd be a first-ballot Hall of Famer as soon as possible. He has proven himself worthy of the hype. People who invoke the ring count argument as the be-all end-all to determine one's talent are ignorant to the fact that championships are a team accomplishment and just as dependent on situations, opponents, and plain old luck of the draw as on any one player's contribution.

Not to mention, the media's coverage of LeBron has been at least 90% negative since he left for Miami. If anything, people should be sick of the constant attempts by the media and basketball fandom to downplay and ridicule an amazing talent like LeBron instead of appreciating him.

You missed my point entirely. You're arguing what's actually happened. I'm trying to explain how average fans see things.

Let me put it to you another way. There's the truth, and then there's public perception. It's the latter that matters. To your average sports fan LeBron James hasn't established himself as an all-time great. He won't in their minds (and like it or not they're the majority) until he wins a NBA Championship.

As for the media coverage, positive or negative press ultimately doesn't matter, because again it's not about what's actually happening, it's about what the public perceives is happening. Most fans just know that they're constantly hearing the media talk about LeBron James whenever the NBA comes up, and they're stick of that. That feeling's intensified when we circle back to the fact that most average fans, whether rightly or wrongly, judge "greatness" by the answer to the question "has he won a championship?"

You're seeing things through wh

at's actually happened, and you're entirely right. It's just not what most people see.

This is spot on. They try to find the bad no matter what and I'm im sure a lot of fans (even some on this thread that haven't commented in a whole) are having trouble giving him credit for his playoff performance thus far which has been phenomenal. An like I stated a few pages back of he wins one this yr, people will still say "only has one" "barely??" "mj had six" "had to sign with a superstar team" "refs won it not him" etc.

I lost a lot of respect when he left cleveland because mj or love would never do that(Kobe almost did I think though) but then I thought "yknow they never had to do that, they had great teams." Mj leaves for a few seasons and I think chi lost in the conference finals to all time great teams.

They didn't wanna help him so he helped himself.

He's been outstanding and if they win gm 4 I don't out they win in 5.

Side note : you guys ever watch or listen to Colin cowherd?? I think a lot of people don't like them because he speaks the truth rather than what fans want to hear. Most logical dude in sports IMO.
