elliott
How's it going CCSLC, I hope everyone is having a good holiday season. Some of you frequenters of the concepts forum might remember me, some new guys might not, but I used to post a lot on this forum, and in recent years I have become more of a lurker on the boards. No matter, even with others recognizing the fact that the concepts section on the forum sometimes features sub-par quality work (I made a lengthy, annoying complaint on the subject earlier this year, which I realize was probably unnecessary and certainly upset a few people at the time.. for that I apologize), I still want to use this as an outlet for some of my recent work. I continue to create hockey, and more recently, football, concepts in my spare time, along with a few paying design jobs. It is now christmas break so i've had more free time, so I'm planning on posting a few hockey concepts and then a thread for football concepts in the next few weeks, so I hope you guys enjoy them because I definitely want to bring a few new things to the table. At the bottom of this post I'll include a few of my past concepts, I've already posted the Sharks, Islanders, Penguins, Panthers, Stars, and Lightning designs of mine to the forum, and I've posted my Jets design elsewhere, but I posted links in case you missed them here, except for the Stars because I working on a re-do of that one (I was also featured on uni-watch a few weeks ago so hopefully y'all saw that).First here, we have the Sabres, which has been in the process for the past week. It still might need some work, so I'd appreciate some criticism to help me improve this concepts in whatever way possible. I re-did the Sabres logo, the primary is obviously based on the classic swords/buffalo logo, but with a definite modern twist. I just think that the current incarnation looks a little too muddled with all of the silver outlining. I created new swords and a new buffalo with silver highlights. Also, you'll notice a new "B" typesetting, inspired by the sword-thru-B logo on the shoulders of the Buffaslug jersey, but with obvious differences considering it is my custom font. The same B is featured crossing with a sword for the secondary/shoulder logo. I tried to make the jerseys reminiscent of the classic, original Sabres jerseys, but with some modern risks and twists. You'll notice the different curvature of the striping and a new number font, which ends up being sort of similar to Agency in some ways, but with some different curves. I also tried a risky sock striping pattern, which is weird, yet would provide a unique "gimmick" for these jerseys. The road jersey uses the mis-matched striping on vintage Sabres stuff like the Winter Classic for example, and also utilizes the blue shoulders, albeit in a different fashion, that are currently featured on the Sabre's roads. The alternate I am going to dub "Buffaslug Template, vol 2". I always thought that the modern template the team used with their infamous slug jerseys was kind of cool, so I used it's basic idea for the striping, with some different treatment for the silver stripe and yellow arm stripe. I'm not expecting many people to enjoy the numbers on the front of the jersey....I really liked the simplicity of just having the crossed swords as the crest, yet I thought it looked too empty at the same time. So, I used block numbers to fill the void created on the front of the jersey. Although I hate looks like the Star's away and Islander's alternate, I think this is an interesting variation on the numbers-on-front phenomenon, and although I haven't even decided myself if I like it yet, I thought it was interesting enough to post. The same block numbers are on the back and on the pants, the pants for the alternates also feature the double silver piping element. SO, let me know what you think of my work here. Expect more NHL concepts in this thread and like I was saying, an NFL redesign thread too in the future. That's about all I got, happy new year and Go Dawgs.Past:Islanders Lightning Panthers Penguins Jets Sharks Dribbble ... Behance
sparkychewbarky
I really like the euro-look alts. Not too fussy on the regular sweaters' number font, but other than that, these are really nice. *The Battle of Seattle
MDGP
Good to see you back Elliott! I really loved all your previous designs and this one is no exception...absolutely phenomenal. The only thing I'm not sure about are the numbers. If it would be possible, I'd like to see how the rest of them look, then I'd be able to give some C+C on those (if necessary). Like I said, the rest is excellent... A vast upgrade on what they currently wear. I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence! wildwing64
Excellent uniforms once again. I like how you've carried over the general idea of the Buffaslug template for the third, and your own unique take on numbers on the front.Although for the home and road uniforms I'd make the socks less stripy. They've got more of a retro feel to them which doesn't work too well with the super modern design of the jerseys. But other than that, it's pretty much perfect. henburg
I'm a big fan of all of your concepts. They are unique but it looks good while doing it. My favorites are the Sharks,Penguins and Jets. Anyways, onto this concept. I like all of the logos except for the buffalo in the primary. The front legs need to be tweaked so that it is more static. Also, I agree with sparky chewbarky and Lafarge on the number font. Other than that this is a great concept and I look forward to seeing more of your work. mbannon92
Really good work here. Both logos look really good, and the primary is a great modernization of their classic logo. The uniforms are also a really good modernization. The alternate is really cool as well...I actually like the numbers on the front. My only complaints are the number font, as the others brought up, and the road jersey striping. I feel like the blue and white on the sleeves should be flipped to match up with the torso (for lack of a better word) stripes. piratesfan16
Wow, that's a really nice update to great logo. It's a little cartoony for my liking, but it still looks sleek and well-detailed. I'd do two things:1) Get rid of the "B' logo underneath the swords on the primary logo. 2) I'd use the "sword-B" logo for the alternate jersey. I generally hate numbers on the front of a hockey jersey.Other than that, the uniform are just perfection. It really compliments the crests in every way. So great to see you back Elliot. I may not have been around the forum when you were, but your work has always been top-notch. Welcome back.
Morgan33
The primary crest looks spectacular. Much better than the half assed modernization currently used (lets just outline everything in silver ). My favourite part however is the blue shoulder yoke on the white road. So many designs use the same type of yoke so it's refreshing to see something original. The only thing I would change is the decision to make the bottom yellow stripes extend all the way down the scooped hemline. I also wish the hem stripes didn't abruptly end.
wILL-INI
The logos are awesome, and well conceived. A couple things. Now just things I think, I think. The Buffalo in the primary looks like it is prancing? and like hoping... I donno not really the power stance you associate with. And the swords are super cartooning in the handles, something I don't like, but to each his own. The B is super bulky too, I like it in the primary though. I dig the jerseys, and the alt is sweet. I really like that one, and the socks are the best... "Classic" does not mean it gets a free pass for being bad design.Portfolio
StevenGrant94
I really enjoy all your work, always very unique. I like all the jerseys, especially the road, I just wish the hem-stripes went all the way around. I also like how you have the numbers on the front of the third. For the logos, I agree with wILL-INI about the how the sword handles look a little cartoony and how the buffalo's stance doesn't quite look right. KyleMakesConcepts
Overall pretty good concepts. The only thing I would change is to remove the B from the primary logo. If you do that, these concepts are gold! One does not simply beat the Buffalo Sabres... oh wait.

jaha32
Good stuff. I agre with piratesfan16 to get rid of teh B under the crossing swords. By extending the back legs (maybe we should only see one hind leg because they are stretched from pushing off the ground equally) it might have a more aggressive stance. Also with the B/sword logo, the B looks strange. The bottom half sticks out too far to the right IMO. I thought it was two letters forming one for a second until I realized it is just a very stylized B. But all in all, this is nice and clean and I like the jersey designs. sparkychewbarky
The number font change is definitely an improvement, although please don't stop pushing the envelope on trying new ideas.I'm with you on the need for more completely original concepts on this forum. The sweaters are great. I'm not sure, but the league may insist on sleeve numbers (on your alt).I like the crossed swords, but to negate the slightly cartoonish feel, I think you should "lean-out" the blades and handles a tad.The buffalo is really nice. IMO he just needs to be angled upwards a bit to more give the feeling of him leaping. The numbers-above-the-crossed-swords has a nice "skull and crossed-bones" look.Looking forward to the next concept. *The Battle of Seattle
elliott
Ok, so the next concept is for the Coyotes. I know a lot of people complain about the so-called "roadkill" logo on the coyotes current alternates, but I love the logo personally, I just thought that putting it on top of a circle, here, the Coyote's recognizable moon, would help eliminate the cause of the roadkill nickname. So that becomes the new primary logo, with the howling coyotes staying as a secondary logo. Clearly you will also notice the color change, going back to the old era's jersey colors and eliminating the very simple brick/white scheme. It's a unique color combo and if it has any place in sports, it's on the Coyotes. I brought back a new version of the old school striping, with hopes to modernize the look with the simple shoulders, new collar design, and lack of a hem stripe. instead, stripes are on the pants like the current jerseys, but with the new stripes obviously. I tried to give a trio of players so you could see a few of the numbers in the font that I used, but I wanted a number font design similar in some ways to the curved edges on the 90s jerseys. Numbers appear on the pants of the home and road too. There's also a new alternate, which keeps the familiar triple stripe in the package, with the addition of some black trim and the Coyotes script across the front. (Two concepts in a row with alternates with front numbers, I know, sorry, I'll stop, I know a lot of people hate that). Shorts are also red but helmet stays black to match the black shoulders. Moon only logo on the shoulders.Tell me what you think. Dribbble ... Behance
Patchey13
I'd shrink the logo just enough so it's not going into the side panels. I'd definitely buy any jersey in that set though. Good to see you back.
piratesfan16
Wow, that striping pattern reminds me of something a Mohave tribe would wear, haha. However, I like it. It's definitely something unique that you wouldn't see in the NHL today. The logo's a little big on the jersey, but the moon definitely helps justify the logo. Not a fan of the third jersey just because I hate scripts on hockey jerseys.
lightning25
Like the addition of green. Very underused in the NHL. Stripe design is very nice as well.
