raysox
The United States was 0-23-1 in games against Mexico IN Mexico before today. Now they are 1-23-1. The scoring play was great, and Tim Howard came up HUGE. It was a sloppy game, but a win is a win in your biggest rival's capital with a B-squad.They evacuated the US cheering section for their own safety. @MichaelDanger19Â | Dribbble
crashcarson15
Because of cockiness following their gold medal? It was scheduled well before Saturday... Mexico really had nothing to gain from this - at all. Now the US finally has the giant monkey off its back for the next time we'll be at Azteca - in 2013 when it really counts. GFB
I can't believe we just won at Azteca. With a B squad. And if I don't see Hercules Gomez or Jermaine Jones play another minute for the US, I will be very happy.
Billy B
Wow, the US went in expecting to lose or draw even if they didn't say it to the media and came out with their first win ever at Azteca. That was just stupid by Mexico even giving them this game in the first place. They had nothing to gain by beating the US at home, but would give us every bit of confidence in the hex if they lost. Can't wait for WCQ finals. I was expecting a multi-goal loss but we somehow came out with a win. Great performances by Cameron with little experience and Edu without much time on the backline. Brek Shea really did a great job too after some trouble in MLS. Even if it's just a friendly, this was a big win for US soccer.
-kj
They evacuated the US cheering section for their own safety.I was at Azteca for the qualifier in 2009, and it was pretty damned crazy after a US loss. I can only imagine what it was like after the game last night. Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop! -kj
I'd guess there were about 300 US fans in our section, surrounded by riot police (and on one side, a fence with barbed wire at the top). raysox
What were the total number of cards in the last 10 minutes? It basically started with the PK, and then the rest of the game was a loss. On top of that, the United players almost fought. @MichaelDanger19Â | Dribbble

They made that mistake in the early years and actually learned from it!In addition, it wasn't too challenging for MLS to include the entire Cascadian rivalry and Montreal Impact into the League since these clubs were successful in the lower rungs (e.g., U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) or the United Soccer Leagues (USL)) and have a core fan-base.In fact, those two aforementioned parameters, along with a Soccer Specific Stadium (SSS) and deep-pocketed financial backer, are vital signs of "transitioning" a club up to the next level; however, it doesn't happen all the time.
