And There is the best Chargers uniform of all time and what they should wear now. Take off the helmet numbers maybe too and thats b-e-a-utiful

Tough to argue. Looks pretty damn good. My vote would be to keep the helmet numbers because it's unique and they fit well under the bolts(i.e. don't look forced).

Here's a VERY rough draft of my idea:

qHUeO.png

In hindsight, I'm not sure I quite captured the shade of powder blue that I'm looking for, but you get the idea.

I absolutely hate it, but mainly because it breaks my football uniform rule. 2 of the 3 uniform items have to match (helmet, jersey, pants), and if you absolutely insist on not having 2/3 match, the helmet has to be the darkest item of the uniform. I've NEVER seen a uniform combination where the three items were all different and the helmet was the lightest part of the uniform that didn't end up looking completely bush league.

Slightly disagree. The Patriots silver-white-navy road set, Boston College gold-white-maroon set (not sure if they still wear this or not) look good IMO.

I don't think I've seen a white helmet example that looks good, nor a dark jersey / lighter helmet example.

Granted, there are some exceptions to the rule, but neither of those looks had the helmet as the lightest part of the set, as you stated. If the Chargers insist on having a white helmet, they absolutely have to go with white pants or, gulp, wear a monochrome uni with it. Otherwise it just looks cheap.

BlueSky's idea above actually seems to be a great compromise. Yellow helmet, powder jersey, yellow pants. Boom. It's a combination that not only solves my biggest uniform gripe and would look fantastic, but it would as well tie in with the Los Angeles area well because of the colleges. Powder for UCLA, Gold for USC (Ok, it's a stretch, but still :P )

Actually my intent was not to suggest a yellow helmet. I was only referencing UCLA in terms of the jersey and how Nike would butcher the design. I'm a white helmet fan when it comes to the Chargers.

True 'dat. I misread your original post. You're right - I can't think of one that looks good when the lid is the lightest piece.

In the "Coincidental Band Appearances" category, I'd like to nominate whoever was on Jimmy Kimmel's show tonight. Didn't catch their name (TV was on at work with sound down) but one guy was wearing a white Antonio Gates throwback jersey.

What do we consider to be the Chargers' rightful helmet color: white or navy blue? The answer to that will influence the rest of our ideal Chargers uniform for sure.

I'd say white for sure, I don't hate the navy though. I just think it looks much cleaner and stands out in the division.

One thing that I like though that stands out from the other uniforms is the standalone shoulder bolts from the early LT years. I just think the white background stripe is cheap looking and takes away from the bolt and the uniform as a whole.

I think it's safe to say the packers raiders and panthers loss because they wore technologically dated uniforms.

Totally. And the Cowboys, Patriots, Eagles, Texans, and Falcons, especially the Falcons, just got lucky. Imagine how well they would have done with the new tech!

Technically the Eagles and Falcons are the only ones of that group that don't have the new tech. The Patriots, Texans, and Cowboys all use the speed machine template. They just don't have the flywire collars.

I guess he didn't mention the Steelers, so including the Pats, Texans, and Cowboys was against the unwritten rules of his post.

Also: Sarcasm.

Eagles were playing the browns so that doesn't count. Falcons arent too dated.

Why the steelers??

I bet you guys the super bowl champs will be in a Nike template! (Texans)

Pretty sure the mobility of the uniforms is why the milkman swatted those passes :)

Ok maybe not but still I think it's fun tracking the new vs old games just for kicks.

Four teams opted for all of the Elite 51 transformation elements except for the Flywire collar - Cowboys, Patriots, Texans and Steelers). Five teams opted out of the Elite 51 transformation and kept the existing jersey design - Raiders, Packers, Eagles, Falcons, Panthers. The remaining 23 teams opted for the full Elite 51 transformation.

Agreed. That's a beautiful uniform. As much as I think the 1987 set got it right, and the 1988-2006 set looked nice and consistent in its own right, this set is something else all together. I wouldn't be opposed to it being adopted full time either, as is. Grey facemasks, helmet numbers, and all. Just so long as it's white pants only. No gold/yellow pants please.

Well, there's 5 teams we know won't be going to the Super Bowl. Not without a Flywire collar.

Isn't it sad that's what Nike would have us believe?

Well iinm the fly wire is more of a construction thing that would prevent it from tearing. So in that case it's not so much a competitive advantage but rather gives the jersey longevity before replacement. So my texans should be fine :)

Those heavy restrictive packers jerseys though...
