Bravo96
Whoa! Awesome thread. As for obscure, I noticed a comment somewhere in the thread about a Kannapolis Intimidators hat. Well, I have some souveneirs from before the team's rebrand. They rebranded to the Intimidators in 05 in honor of Dale Earnhardt, Sr, who owned stock in them. Previously, they were known as the Piedmont Boll Weevils. I have a hat and some logo balls from those good old days. Also have a Myrtle Beach Pelicans hat, and some various Charlotte Knights merch. nmsuaggie
I love wearing my defunct El Paso Buzzards jerseys during the winter time. People who remember the WPHL get a kick when they see me sporting it. Go Aggies!
Gothamite
Very few pre-WWII NFL teams had logos. Most of what you see ascribed to them was actually designed in the last decade or so.I've seen some legit pre-war logos by looking through old game programs or photos. Which have had logos designed in the last decade? We'd have to look at each one case by case. But I've seen merchandise from the Milwaukee Badgers, Providence Steamrollers, Pottsville Maroons and other defunct teams with 1990s and 2000s logos. These things tend to turn up on eBay once in a whole. FWIW, the Packers didn't have a logo until the 1940s. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. FiddySicks
I have an old Sacramento Gold Miners CFL Starter flex fit I wear every now and then. Have a Bayern Munich jersey I sport at times too. STILL pissed I gave away my 49ers Merton Hanks jersey But the best I've ever seen actually belongs to Puckguy. It was an old Sacramento Surge jersey. B-Rich
Representin' obscure teams? Shee, that's been one of my hobbies since the internet, home inkjet printers, and iron-on transfer paper all came together about 15 years ago. I've made beaucoup DIY T-shirts and sweatshirts for myself and friends of old ABA, WFL, and NASL teams, occasionally WHA or MISL teams. The Hawaiians, Spirits of St. Louis, Minnesota Fighting Saints, Buffalo Stallions, LA Aztecs, Virginia Squires, Birmingham Americans, and many others are spread (via my gifts to family and friends)from Tampa to Portland, OR. Probably my favorite deal in that regard was wearing my WFL Southern California Sun T-shirt to an Angels game at the Sun's home, Anaheim Stadium. Kind of "bringing it home". It is what it is. bosrs1
one of my mates has an AFC Wimbledon jersey. They play in the 4th Division of the Football League (npower League 2) so I guess they're pretty obscure.I have one of those as well. Though I don't think they're that obscure since their uniform is nothing but former top flight Wimbledon FC's with their modified patch added to it. I wore it to a Chelsea v Inter match at the Rose Bowl a few years ago and several people pointed at me, waved or otherwise acknowledged it. leopard88
One more to add (for a team that never existed) -- a Baltimore Cardinals t-shirt from 1987 (when Bidwill flirted with Charm City before moving to Phoenix).I would love to see a picture of that one.IIRC It was just the old Cards bird head with Baltimore across the top. I think the NFL put the kibosh on them quick...maybe a week after they showed up in stores.Almost. "Baltimore" on the top and "Cardinals" on the bottom in a pretty generic black block font. I'll try to remember to take a picture when I get a chance. They were definitely better than the Baltimore Browns t-shirts that appeared briefly in 1995. If memory serves me, they had a pretty badly rendered Browns helmet on them. Geoff
Interesting thread. In my last round of spring-cleaning (i.e. getting rid of stuff I no longer need or can't wear due to size), I donated to a local Goodwill my long-held-but-time-to-let-go-of Pensacola Ice Pilots jersey...the original one, as in the straight bite-off of the Quebec Rafales. When was this, what size was it, and why wasn't I informed? -kj
Someone bumped a thread I hadn't seen, so I went back in time a bit:I own a New Jersey Rockin' Rollers jersey from RHI...Guilty. Plus, I've got this:one of my mates has an AFC Wimbledon jersey. They play in the 4th Division of the Football League (npower League 2) so I guess they're pretty obscure.I have one of those as well. Though I don't think they're that obscure since their uniform is nothing but former top flight Wimbledon FC's with their modified patch added to it. I wore it to a Chelsea v Inter match at the Rose Bowl a few years ago and several people pointed at me, waved or otherwise acknowledged it.Not exactly. They do have their own shirt designs, which tend to change every year or two. I have an AFCW scarf that I bought at the club shop at the stadium, plus a shirt I ordered later. I also picked up a Wimbledon FC shirt on eBay a while back; the sponsor is "Tiny". I suppose most of my soccer shirts would be "obscure" in the US, though most of you would be familiar with them. I do like my Bristol Rovers shirt that happens to be the same shirt worn by Nick Frost in Hot Fuzz.Speaking of Nick Frost and Wimbledon, while trying (and failing) to find a picture of the shirt in Hot Fuzz, I stumbled upon this:EDIT: After a little more searching, here's what I was looking for: Buy some t-shirts and stuff at KJ Shop!
