See Red 2,198 Posted March 2, 2012 The outfield monstrosity isn't as bad as I thought it would be, to be honest. I don't like the shade of green they used for the outfield walls, as they seem to clash a little bit with the blue seats -- and once the novelty of the stadium wears off, we'll be seeing a lot of those blue seats. Even then, though, it's a beautiful stadium. I'd love to catch a game there.
the admiral 29,167 Posted March 2, 2012 I love the green. Should be a team color. Seating should be more colors than their "lovely shade of blue." That ends up being kind of weird when blue is a team color, but not that blue, and it's tertiary to black and orange, anyway. This is going to sound a little FIRE BAD, but having metric outfield dimensions seems like a bit of a contrivance. I get that they want to be an "international" ballpark, and that people from other countries use meters, but people from metric countries come to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and so on down the line, and their parks don't post dimensions in meters. It's fine for Toronto and was for Montreal, because the country they're in uses the metric system, but it seems like unnecessary clutter in Miami.Look how long I went without saying "of course Miami uses metric, they're buying kilos of coke all the time!"
FiddySicks 11,371 Posted March 2, 2012 I don't care what anyone says. That crazy acid trip for a home run indicator is freaking cool.

BigMac12 12 Posted March 2, 2012 In defense of Bobby Valentine, Fenway Park is not sponsored by Samuel Adams but Budweiser, so the Red Sox are getting not so great beer. (/joke)

the admiral 29,167 Posted March 2, 2012 The vivid colors really help to distinguish it from Miller Park, so that's a plus. Not that I don't like Miller Park, I do, I just don't want them to look alike.
pmoehrin 1,118 Posted March 2, 2012 things way too close to the batters eyePretty sure that's only going to come up when a home run is hit so its not going to be in the way of the batter's eye.
AlMagz 0 Posted March 2, 2012 So the catcher market just completely blew up. I know it was touched on earlier but now that its official, I think that Molina's contract is absurd. 15m a year is crazy. Dont get me wrong I love Yadier Molina, being a catcher my whole life, its awesome to watch him play, and his defense is something we probably wont see again. The main problem I have with a contract like this, is the same I have with every absurdly large contract is that it completely changes the market. Now guys like Russell Martin are going to want around 15m a year when it probably isnt warranted. But because of this contract they are going to have to come close. And especially with catchers, even though the position has evolved more into an offensive position, it is mainly based on defense and how well you can handle pitching, and then hitting was a plus. I dont know if that has ever been valued at that price.
TheOldRoman 1,292 Posted March 2, 2012 The wall color is very reminiscent of old Comiskey Park at the end of its life. Most of the seats in it were 50+ years old when it was demolished, and they went through several coats of paints over the years. I have a wooden seatback from the park, and there is probably a quarter inch of paint on it. Anyway, they used a very bright green like that for the last coat of paint.

McCall 1,476 Posted March 2, 2012 Gotta say, while I'm not loving it, that thing does look a lot better in three dimensional form than as an illustration. The drawing really didn't give any aspect as to how it would actually look, so I guess this automatically counts as an improvement. Also, that shade of green does feel very Miami, but with it and that royal blue, how are their primarily orange and black uniforms gonna look there?
McCall 1,476 Posted March 2, 2012 So did the owner get his fish tank or no? You know what, that bright green goes pretty well with the royal blue, very Miami. Wouldn't have minded it if that was their color scheme.
