2012 MLB Season

How bad are the Mets?

They're tied for 3rd w/ the Rockies for most wins (4) @ Citi Field after the All-Star Break. The Nats have 6 and the Braves have 5. You can't make it up.

They're the NL version of the Red Sox.

Another team that's completely given up on the year and is simply going through the motions of showing up and taking the field every day. At least Met fans are smart enough not to show up to see that train wreck though. Fenway is still a packed house every night.

The Mets are a young team they should not give up on the season they need to show why they are worthy of staying in New York.

As bad as the Mets have been its a good case for Dickey to win the Cy Young, because on a good team he would already have 22 wins by now.

The Pirates must win, at least, 9 of their last 20 to finish above .500. They are 5-15 in their previous 20 and are on a 6-game skid.

I know, I know, learning process, they were overachieving before, and all that bullcrap, but to make it this far and blow it would really suck. Hopefully they use their day off today to realize how lucky they are to still be only 2.5 games back and start playing like it. The playoffs aren't the primary goal here, but if that's what motivates them to stop suddenly playing like the old buccos again, I'll take it.

For the first time in a month..the Yankees win on consecutive games.

Nice pitching by Phil Hughes.

Yankees went 2-34 with RISP against the Red Sox, and both hits were bloop shots by Jeter.

That was good enough to barely escape a three game series against one of the worst teams in baseball. If they want to beat the Rays, they simply have to be much, MUCH better.

Jed Lowrie come off the DL and comes in with 2 RBI double in the bottom of the 8th after the Astros had been down 4-0 earlier in the game against the Phillies. Were finally playing DECENT baseball for the first time since May. Another good sign is that since the roster expansion prospects have been playing well also. Astros win 6-4.

Dodgers stay cold, and fall further back to the Cardinals. Of course now its a 7 1/2 deficit between them and the Giants now. Plus LA still gets the Cards for 3 more, Reds for 3, and Nationals for 3, while the Giants get the divisional opponents from here on out. It looks like its gonna be an orange October again in San Francisco!

It's been so awesome to see the Giants play so well down the stretch. Despite losing their best hitter, they've still been able to maintain pace, and in some ways have even gotten better since Melky got suspended. Buster Posey is as well the greatest thing that has ever happened to this team. His presence at the plate both with the bat and glove have been that missing piece, and is the frontrunner as of now for the NL MVP. Between the Giants playing so well, and the A's playing like AL the Angel is assisting them, this has been an amazing year of baseball for the Bay Area.

Where did Buster Posey go? I swear he's been on the team the whole year. Oh, you're talking about the fraud Melky Cabrerra. Truthfully, even without the PED's it was a mirage of a season for him. Buster is and has been the best hitter since he joined the Giants. Please don't insult a real ballplayer by ranking him below a fraud, and this is coming from a Dodger fan.

So let's see: both Bay Area teams had a juicer in their lineup (Melky, Bartolo) while the SoCal teams flushed their riches with close to a billion each in contracts...and it's the Giants and A's who can make the postseason while the Dodgers and Angels choke down the stretch. Do the baseball Gods hate us in SoCal or something?

P.S: I'm really frightened for the Phillies. They were basically the NL's Red Sox (save the mental nutcase of a manager) as of Aug 1...yet they have better odds of getting in than the Dodgers, despite blowing Victorino and Pence away while nearly doing the same to Lee. I would not wanna play them right now.

Except that Melky was our best hitter, statistically speaking anyway. Hell, his numbers were so out of this world that he STILL may win the batting title. Should he? Hell no. He can take a long walk off a short cliff for all I care, and the suspension should disqualify him. Buster is hands down the Giants best player and MVP. I'm not disputing that, but you have to remember that untill he was outed as a fraud, Melky's season was overshadowing even Posey's.

Which team would you rather face in the playoffs.....the Phillies or the Nationals?

With a 4 man playoff rotation, I think that the Phillies would be stronger than the Nationals right now, especially considering their experience.

Of course, the Phillies can't lose games that they're leading in the 8th to the Astros like they did last night, and if they're able to grab that 2nd Wild Card (which I still hate, despite all this) they'd have to beat the Braves, who have owned them.

On an unrelated note, the Phillies might be solving their infield issues by trying out Chase Utley at 3rd base. He's been taking grounders before a lot of games lately. If he can play 3rd (which he was drafted as), and he doesn't totally F the team by hiding an injury again, they will be much improved in the infield next season. Outfield however...

Rays score six runs in 32 innings in Baltimore, in the process of getting swept.

Against the Yankees $25M "ace" tonight, Sabathia blows a lead for the fourth consecutive game, his sixth straight lead he has blown, and the Rays score six runs in a 6-4 win, also giving the Rays the season series with two more left to play.

The Orioles have held the Rays to 0-2 runs in their last seven meetings. The Yankees can't keep that pathetic lineup under 2 runs to save their lives.

Now, try telling me which team deserves to be in first place and which one doesn't? I couldn't give two craps about luck - good teams create their own luck.

Hunter Pence hits a Grand Slam at AT&T Park Southwest to make it 5-0 Giants over the D Backs in the 3rd. chants of let's go Giants are still ringing out.

Oh, and the Dodgers are losing too. I can't believe how quickly the NL West race got out of hand.

that 2nd Wild Card (which I still hate, despite all this

I think the fact that teams like the Brewers, Phillies and Pirates are still in it shows how much the second wild card spot has led to increased mediocrity for the playoff picture.

The Braves are probably going to win around 90 games, but because they happened to be in the same division as the Nationals who could win 100 games, they'll be stuck in a best of one series with some team that's probably going to be sporting an 85-77 record or there about.

There's only been a handful of teams in baseball history that I would consider mediocre that got into the playoffs and most of them were divisional winners coming out of weak divisions. Not Wild Card winners. This second Wild Card spot I think could add alot of teams to that list in a very short time frame.
