2012 MLB Season

I think there is a good chance Joba Chamberlain has thrown his last pitch in pinstripes.

Joba Chamberlain, who once swept New York into a fervor with his dominant relief work for the Yankees, now finds his career in some doubt after dislocating his right ankle while playing on a trampoline with his son.

Chamberlain, who was already working his way back from Tommy John elbow surgery at Yankees camp, suffered the injury at what general manager Brian Cashman explained was a "kid's center with athletic activities featuring trampolines," according to the YES Network's Jack Curry. Chamberlain had surgery Thursday night for what was described as an "open dislocation" and will be hospitalized for several days.

What a friggen genius

Now, I've heard mixed reports on when he can return, but when I was a kid I basically did the exact same thing to my ankle on a trampoline and ended up having three surgeries and spent over a year on crutches. This not only will almost certainly end his season, but this could even be a career ender.

I haven't been on a trampoline since and refuse to ever crawl up on one of those death traps again. Those things are so dangerous.

But they're so much fun! ;)

Anywho, that's nasty. I think Joba's career is over. A shame, even if he is a Yankee that I despise, no one deserves to have their career ended because of an injury.

Why does it seem like so many players get DUI's in Spring Training?

How else can you have fun in Florida?

the worst helmets design to me is the Jacksonville jaguars hamlets from 1995 to 2012 because you can't see the logo vary wall

Maybe because they only play day games, and therefore have more time to go out at night. Also, during the season they are staying at 5-star hotels in major downtown areas, likely with great bars in walking distance or easy access to cabs. Spring training is in smaller cities so they probably have to drive to get anywhere. They still should take a cab, though.

Because professional athletes are overgrown children with access to cars and booze. Also, most of Florida is covered by central-casting Lawnorder cops who don't take kindly to Yankees (the actual kind, not the team), blacks, and so forth, and so they don't get wink-nudged on their way like some guy in Wausau swerving home from the bowling alley.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I heard a report that Joba lost a life threatening amount of blood, so it could have killed him. As Bucfan said those things are dangerous.

???

He dislocated his ankle... he wasn't stabbed....

Or did something else happen that I didn't read about?

It sounds like it was more of a compound fracture to me.

The hits just keep on coming for Ryan Madson. He's out for the season with a torn elbow ligament.

At the time I didn't the think move by the Phillies to sign Papelbon over Ryan Madson made any sense. Why would you go out and sign somebody who's basically just as good as the guy you already have but costs more?

Now its makes perfect sense.

I think its pretty likely the Phillies knew he was damaged goods. That injury isn't something that just started during spring training. He probably had the bad elbow for most of the second half of last year.

Basically it was an open dislocation, which is the same thing.

Since I'm one of those nutjobsguys who thinks that closer is a worthless position, I still think Philly vastly overpaid for Pap.

Just a thought:

White Sox send Matt Thornton to Cincinnati for a couple prospects. Maybe a guy like Tony Cingrani and another arm with back-of-the-rotation potential.

About 20 years ago the Mets had a preseason game on Channel 9 (WOR) Mets vs Astros, and the Astros had an unknown high number player from the minors playing Centerfield. The pa system was just finished playing Centerfield by John Fogherty and Ralph Kiner got confused and thought the Astros CF was Fogherty and called him Fogherty the rest of the game.

According to an ESPN notification to my phone, Sean Marshall will close for the Reds. So, probably won't happen.
