For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

This is nice. Much better than any of the elaborate memorial patches we've seen the past few years. I wonder if the Nats are doing anything for Carter.

I laughed.

Are the Nationals planning anything?

Speaking of the Nats, have they or haven't they kept the Expos' retired numbers out of circulation?

The numbers are in circulation, but Carter and Dawson are part of a "ring of honor", honoring Montreal and Washington baseball history. I think we'll see a patch.

I do not even recall him going by "Kid." I prefer numbers, too, especially if that number is retired by the team. I like the way the Yankees did it before George. That was too much. The Cubs' Santo patch was decent, although I'd have preferred no red outline on the 10. But to each their own.

Hey, what are the chances the Mets pull a Twins and decide to wear black at home every game to honor Carter and spite Lukas?

Does anybody else think that using his nickname is kind of unprofessional? I rather see "GC", "Carter" (in a smaller size), or even just the number by itself.

I'd say it's fine.

While I never referred to him as "The Kid", it was always known that was his name, so that's fine. I do wish that instead of using black, they would've used orange to outline a white home plate with blue for "The Kid" and a blue and orange "8". Maybe even add pinstripes to the plate. I understand that it's tradition to use black for a memorial patch, but who says you can't make a colorful memorial patch?

I'm all for conservative, simple, classic designs... but these same old black patches with white letters is getting old. I know its about paying respect to a deceased player, but I would have to think people want to be memorialized more that by a somber black patch. To be honest, all homerism aside, I think the Indians' Herb Score patch was perfect.

What would be your suggestion? I think this patch is fine. But if you want to add some color to it, make the plate white and add a Mets-colored trim. But that's it.

Go A's!

I disagree, I think a simple black patch with white letters and/or numbers is an elegant and classy way to memorialize someone.
