You're pretty quick to sell the guy up your big crap-brown river just because he bolted for Los Angeles. I'm sorry, but you're going to have to allow for the fact that losing their Hall of Fame first baseman, Hall of Fame manager, and Hall of Fame pitching coach just might lead the team to finish out of first place (I have them finishing second), and it's not your place to jump down anyone else's throats for suggesting as much. I think plenty of people have made this bold prediction that a team traditionally cobbled from everyone else's screwups and washouts might not be as good without their best player, and yes over the course of the last five years he was very much their best player; you can't extrapolate the data from one series (and even then saying "if you don't count the three home runs") to argue the contrary. Which team I like isn't germane to this at all.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

While I get everyone's arguments, to me the NL Central is made up of two lumps.

The top 3: Cardinals, Brewers, Reds

the bottom 3: Pirates, Astros, Cubs

It's hard to see either the Pirates, Astros, or Cubs finishing ahead of St. Louis, even after losing Pujols.

I don't think the extra wild card will help the Jays this year, but who knows. They could be in it all year long.

Ok, seriously what's your frickin problem? Because I still believe my team is still competitive? Yes Pujols was a big loss, but he was not the only reason they won it all last year. Yes we're gonna miss him in St. Louis, but they're still a very good team that definitely has the pieces to win the Central, especially when you look at the other teams. Btw, my comment on his homer pick was picking the Rays first while the Yanks 3rd. You can disagree with me fine. I disagreed with him. I didn't call him stupid or anything.

So drop your little arrogant, self-righteous, elitist, holier than thou preaching for once, and realize that YOU don't have to decide who's right and who's wrong around here. People are allowed to disagree with you. Why does it always feel like someone has to remind you of that?

Not sure I'd be picking the Phillies to win the NL East this season, considering Chase Utley hasn't played an inning this spring (dealing with patella tendinitis again, and likely will be for the rest of his career) and Ryan Howard suffered an infection in his surgically-repaired Achilles and will likely be out longer than expected (probably mid June.) They did not improve the bench much in the offseason and don't really have the depth to withstand those losses for an extended period of time. All things being equal I still think that they are still considerably better than the rest of the improved NL East, but all things aren't equal and I think it's a possibility, if not a probability that their reign is over.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not really sure how picking the Rays to win the division is at all a homer pick. Our offense is good enough and our rotation is beastly. Just because the Yankees are the Yankees doesn't mean they're invincible. Honestly, I think they'll dissappoint this year.

This.
