Hockey East Concepts

There have been a few threads recently of college hockey concepts that have motivated me to post my designs, most of which I completed a few months ago. My goal is to present how I would like Hockey East to look; this means that some schools will receive major overhauls while others may have minor tweaks. Some schools will also get a third jersey.

The first design is Boston College. I have always had a soft-spot for these BC jerseys since I started following Hockey East. I think it is important for a classic team like BC to have classic jerseys. Their new Under Armour jerseys try a little too hard to be different, especially with the vertical striping and the pattern on the sleeves. For this concept I put the Eagles back in their 1990-style uniforms with the school's updated colors and logos.

It's nice to see someone else jumping on the Hockey East concept bandwagon!

I completely agree that BC should have uniforms that are based in some sort of historical precedent, which is why I'm not a huge fan of the new uniforms. As for your concepts, I have no real complaints. It's a classic look that pays homage to the history of the league's best team. I've never been a huge fan of that bird logo, and prefer the wordmark style they use now, but I completely understand the use of it for history's sake.

Nice work, Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence!

Next up is Merrimack. As an alum I am not a big fan of their current set. The home uniforms are yellow and are a replica of the Montreal Canadiens classic design. The away jerseys seem to use a brighter yellow than the home set and they have a cursive wordmark that is not used by any other Merrimack team or by the College. They also seem to use a different font with the numbers.

My design provides consistency between the two jerseys. They are similar to the uniforms worn in the early 2000's but do not have the angled wordmark as those jerseys once did. I think this look is much cleaner but still appealing. The alternate uniform uses the "MC" logo that is currently on the home jersey but is now on a white jersey instead of yellow.

Anxiously awaiting UMaine, who just beat those dirty cheats from Merrimack. Heading down to Boston for the tournament on Friday. Go Blue!

Next up is Umass-Lowell. The Riverhawks remind me a lot of the Texas Rangers in that they are two teams that seem to struggle with either red or blue as the dominant color. For this concept I chose blue as the main color and utilized the "Riverhawaks" wordmark as the primary logo for both jerseys and "UML" added to the shoulders.

Not a fan of UML. Unless they're using a logo, colleges should have their school name or initials on the jersey.

And something as long as RiverHawks needs to be two lines...it looks way too squished when stretched out like that.

And the "numbers under the team name" thing on the front is too much like Boston University.

I never liked this rebrand...too much bevels, too much Impact, too much Phoenix.

The uniforms were much better when they simply read "Lowell".

I have to disagree, I think the stacked wordmark looks to crowded on the front of the jersey.

Next up will be UNH.

That is a poor example. When done like that it looks terrible. Take the UML from the shoulder logo and it would be much better.

How is it a poor example? My point is that I think the current jersey would benefit from a wordmark or logo that is not stacked.

Here we have the University of New Hampshire. I only made slight changes to the home and away set. I added an additional stripe to the sleeves to represent the style of uniforms they wore in the late 80's and early 90's. I also switched the shoulder patch logo from the Wildcat head to the paw print. I changed the socks by adding a gray stripe but I am not too if I am sold on this design as it is similar to UNH's rival, Maine. I added a third jersey which features the state of New Hampshire as to further cement the concept that the school is the state's University.
