Did the New Jersey Nets tease their Brooklyn logo?

I actually like it. It's got a simplicity that isn't seen much in pro basketball. I'm kinda even hoping the jerseys are just black and white and the shield is used on the jerseys as a crest, similar to a soccer jersey and sans word mark. It sure would be unique, and the simplicity alone would be something that isn't seen much in American sports. I know some of you probably want to jump out of a building reading that description, but IMO, in some cases less is more.

Any net would be preferable, really. Is it so much to ask for the Nets to finally use a net?

Why do people want to see a net so much? Because really, New York teams and graphical representation of nicknames just don't mix. Case examples...

Well because unlike those other examples a net wouldn't be a cartoony over the top mascot. It would just be....a net. You could integrate a simple crisscross net pattern into the primary logo somehow and still pull off the iconic look.

To me those shirts look like something you would buy at Old Navy

That's probably intentional. The Nets seem like they are looking for something retro, old-school and simple. Old Navy's style is kind of based off the same concept.

The point is that there's no need to graphically represent a sports team's name in their logo. A net just doesn't invoke enough emotions to do anything for a brand. So its better to keep things simple rather than busy things up with imagery that doesn't serve any functional purposes.

Fixed.

That shield B is awesome. That's beautiful simple design. But the other marks that were trying to do that, missed the mark.

Again, though. What if they had JUST gone with a single line shield. No fill. No words. No ball. Call it a shield and an abstract net.

It'd be the ballsiest and hottest design in all of pro sports. And it could instantly become iconic with such a simple shape. I'd have been all over that.

Getting a trademark would be a problem.

Hey Sportsfan - we get it. You like NJ / NY teams. Could you express your love without taking up my whole laptop screen?

Thanks.

I don't know why, specifically, this picture made it click for me. But, extremely minimalist design, black-and-white color scheme, narrow, modern, sans-serif font... Hey, Hove, what's your favorite movie?

Any Given Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for those Brooklyn Nets.

Good call on the similarity, btw.
