Did the New Jersey Nets tease their Brooklyn logo?

Thats because they never embrassed New Jersey once Ratner took over it was all about Brooklyn so why would we see a lame duck team that sucks.

Tank, they couldn't sell out Finals tickets. I bought same-day tickets on a lark and sat in a largely-empty section.

And that wasn't one of the games they admitted was sold out.

On-court success had little to do with Jersey's disinterest in the Nets. I don't claim to know what was, but I know what wasn't.

Pretty sure the Nets embrassed New Jersey on a regular basis.

Yeah do that.  Do exactly THAT

New Jersey embarrasses itself on a regular basis. :)

Seriously though, if the state won't show up for a team that is in the Finals, why should the team stay? It has every right to leave.

I was at sold out hockey game on Sunday and 90% were Devils fans. I am not sure what the issue was with the Nets but except for a brief 4 year period they were the most pathetic team in the East year in year out and I am or was a Nets fan still have not decided to stick with them or not.

Heavily debating the issue.

The Finals weren't played in the good arena in Newark, which is in the middle of a real city with real city amenities like restaurants and bars, and which is accessible by rail from all of New Jersey and from New York City. (Insult Newark all you want. But realise that those insults apply to every single city in the country. The fact is that the area around the arena is great.) The Finals were in the other arena, in the Meadowlands, which is in the middle of precisely nothing.

The Nets didn't move to Newark until long after the Brooklyn move had been planned. They were lame ducks in Newark from day one, as it was known from the moment of their arrival that they'd be there for only two seasons. We'll never know exactly what would have happened if the team had not been sold to Ratner and if it had moved permanently to Newark when the arena there was built. But we can presume that the team would have drawn much better in that case than it did either in the Meadowlands or as temporary passers-through in Newark. I strongly doubt that Finals games would not have sold out in that excellent urban arena.

Remind me again why the Nets did the two-year layover in Newark instead of just re-upping at the Meadowlands. Did they get kicked out of the Meadowlands? Sweetheart deal from Newark? The whole thing seems kind of pointless now and the lame-duck nature of the Newark thing makes their departure from Jersey look even worse.

So playing in the Meadowlands was responsible for the Nets being unable to sell out Finals games? Those teeming Net fans couldn't take a bloody shuttle bus from the train station? For a Finals game?

That only reinforces my belief that New Jersey embarassed the Nets. That's a Tampa Bay Rays-level pathetic excuse.

The Nets wanted very much to move to Newark... Unfortunately Newark didn't want anything to do with them or their kooky Community Youth Organization owners until it was too late. By that point Ratner bought the team for his Brooklyn land grab and Newark settled for the Devils instead.

Meanwhile the Devils are losing money like crazy in Newark even with all their winning and playing in a state-of-art arena and their owner has publicly stated how he regrets moving the team there.

Because Izod was a terrible place to play ball. Their last year at that arena was abysmal. There was literally a game where only 1000 people showed up (though that was during a blizzard, but still)

Yup.

The IZOD Center was always mentioned as one of the worst arenas in the NBA. I've never been there, but just looking at it in various pictures and on TV, it really did look like a crappy place. It had zero life. Nothing about it really stood out.

No, upper deck. Looks like there's a lot of seating that could be there but isn't. Maybe it's the whole "worst seats cost the most to build" thing. Certainly doesn't help the versatility of the place, though, as we're seeing with hockey.

Really? They should be able to accommodate hockey rink!

Barclays Center COULD be the home of the Islanders, and the Iles will even play a pre-season game at the arena. BUT it would be the 2nd smallest arena in the NHL. Averaging 15k with sell outs every night is better than 11k, and 18k sell outs when the Rangers are in town.

Seems like a really dumb time to bail on the Nets considering they're headed to Brooklyn and now actually have the potential to be good.

Since I don't have a favorite NBA team, I'm considering it myself strictly because of their colors.

Black is slimming.

For a few years the Meadowlands Arena had these strange banners of a waving clown to represent the circus, a guitar to represent concerts and a skate for ice shows.

It seems like that was a trend with arena's in the 90's, having strange banners in the rafters. The Spurs had a ton of them when they played in the Alamodome and so did the Hawks at The Omni.

It COULD be their home, but it would be a terrible home. The arena is simply too small for an ice rink which means plenty of obstructed views. Plus the seating will be horseshoe shaped so one side of the arena will sit almost empty:

As the Phoenix Coyotes found out back when they played in America West Arena, basketball centric arenas are simply not good for hockey. The Coyotes were forced to move to a new arena the suburbs where they toiled away in obscurity since.
