This is lame. And it doesn't even look that good.

I hope this turns out to be like the gold outline that a few teams (including the Cardinals have done). Which I believe was announced that those things would be worn in game but ultimately they were just worn before the games.

I hope that happens because this is silly. But hey... marketing.

It's pretty cool they're wearing these against the Cubs though!

The gold outlines are cool. Did they do that for Opening Day '07?

In the meantime, BFIBs, you're being paged for your classy thoughts on this classy gold script.

Love the hat, not a fan of the jersey. One thing that they could have done is just made the bat gold, since yellow is so close to gold anyway. The only possible problem could be that some fans wouldn't even notice it.

Looks like the Giants started a new trend with the gold. Not silly outlines. FULL ON BLING!!! :P

Love that cap. I'll probably have to pick one up.

God, that's ugly.

Why did the Red Sox have to have their gold-tinted uniform in 2005. Started a :censored:tastic trend.

The Giants, of course, played no small part in making this a full-on ugliness epidemic.

I also hope the Cards aren't wearing the World Series Champions patch on their uniforms for the entire season a-la Giants. Stupid. I'm fine with the patches on opening night, but not for entire seasons.

On the contrary, the gold-tinted hats (this Cardinals one, the Giants one posted upthread) are amazing. I wish the Red Sox came out with one.

Random thought: Did the Red Sox wear gold-tinted uniforms on 2008 opening day?

I like it but do agree that the outline should have been red. The hat is the best part of that set though. I personally have the Giants hat from last year. I love that hat. The only thing is I wish they would have put the World Series Champions logo on the hat but that might have been over kill

The Red Sox didn't wear anything special on opening day in 2008. Part of this is probably because of their weird beginning to the season, when they opened in Japan around March 25th, then went back to spring training games, then back to the regular season. They were well into their season, (9 games IIRC) by the time their home opener rolled around.

I think that the Red Sox, Cardinals (first time), and the Phillies did it right. (Even the Dallas Mavericks looked great with a gold outline this season.) The gold outline was a great touch. I thought the Giants last year looked pretty bad and the Cardinals this year have followed this trend.

Red Sox on Opening Day, 2008: no special cap or jersey or patch - and I believe what they started in '05 (gold outline) was subtle and classy in celebrating their monumental comeback and eventual championship.

True, forgot about that.

The Celtics also had a gold outline on opening night following their 2007-2008 Championship.

I can tolerate a gold outline once on opening night (though I don't like it), but this all gold wordmark crap that I truly hate.
