Browning Logo Question?

Obviously the positive space in the Browning logo is a buck.

But friends and I were discussing the negative space the other day.

Is it:

a ) Nothing

b ) A duck flying to the NE.

c ) A doe looking W back over her body.

Yes, there was beer involved.

I've always thought it was a doe in there.

I just thought it was a buck, but the doe totally makes sense. I think that might be what it is. Sort of a Hofstra type thing going.

Looks like a guy's arm trying to stab someone with a spoon to me. I've had a beer though...

Besides what it obviously is, most people from where I am from say it is a man on fire running.

If you mean a doe as in a buck with no antlers because the antlers are all black then yes.

how about a doe because the negative space (white) forms the shape of a doe?

It's a doe.

A deer.

A female deer.

id say its likely it was intended to just be a buck. the doe image just happens to form. one of those happy accidents. besides some minor flaws in the shapes/paths this is one of my favorite logos

actually, if you read it, he says very clearly "a buck with no antlers"...a doe is not "a buck with no antlers"

if you look carefully at the image in the negative space, i personally think this is more than an accident...the silhouette of the doe and buck are very different, especially around the nose - the buck is "heavier" and more rounded, while the doe is more elongated and slender

For years, I has a Browning safe sitting in my bedroom, so I've had plenty of time to study the logo....

The negative space is meaningless. There's nothing there. It all about the outline of the buck. If you remove the antlers and look solely at the head and neck, it vaguely forms the shape of a "B". I believe this was that they were going for when coming up with the logo -- a B with antlers.
