Connecticut sun (wnba) unveil logo

The WNBA's first non-NBA market team (since Charlotte is technically still an NBA market) is the Connecticut Sun (formerly the Orlando Miracle - not the Miami Sol).  For those following at home, Utah moved to San Antonio to become the Silver Stars (which we've covered) and the Portland Fire and Miami folded outright.  The Sun's logo can be found below.  Pretty lame if you ask me.

Connecticut Sun

A couple of questions -- (1) Why wouldn't the Phoenix men's team object to a name so similar to theirs? (2) How do the parents of a Connecticut WNBA player explain that their daughter is a Sun?

Yes that is extremely lame.  The Sun wordmark is the same font used by the Mohegan Sun resort/casino.  I always thought they should have named the team the "Mohegan Slots".  Thank you , I'll be here all week.

Yeah do that.  Do exactly THAT

It could be worse...they could have recycled the Miami Sol logo (only changing the text)...

I actually don't mind the logo, it's the uniforms I'm worried about...a lot of bad ideas pop into your head with those colors...

Tank with the zinger!!! :)

As for the logo....well, it is the WNBA...we are talking about worse-than-minor league crap here (as far as logos go... and the product on the court as well)

Let's try not to expect too much. As far as WNBA logos go?

It's on par...

this logo is weak.  i could have drawn that 3/4 sleep and lefthanded (i'm a righty)

and it doesn't look like the creation of a five year old.  more like a two year old. ???

Three thinsg on this logo.

One there is already teh Miami sol with a sun as a logo.  Just bad decision making by the WNBA.

Two, I see that they tried to incorporate teh Moeghan SUn Casino writing into teh logo, which is very catroonish and badly designed.

Three,  What is even their main colors.  I see abou ten different shades.

Just terrible if you ask me, terrible.  Soem of the older WNBA logos at least had some design to them.  FIre whoever is head of the creative department.

In all fairness, however, it is miles ahead of the logo for the Careno's (half casino, half arena) other tenant, the Mohegan Wolves:

Ahh, I take it back. They both suck harder than Tracy Lords...

Yeah, most the WNBA logos suck. The one exception would be the Sacramento Monarchs, this design success can be seen with their counterparts the Kings. The Kings took many elements of the Monarchs uniforms when they switched over this year, making it the one successful WNBA designs.

The NBA withdrew its ownership commitments this year, leaving the individual franchises to fend for themselves.  This is why you are starting to see franchises in non-NBA cities, although the majority are still owned by individual NBA team owners.
