I like those Ducks and Sharks concepts, but you're not going to be correct with those Ducks predictions. The Ducks have a pretty strong prospect pool, and the current core is young.... they won't be THAT bad.

Texas Stars

2011-12: 89 pts, 10th in west. Did not qualify for playoffs.

2012-13: 80 pts, 5th in west. Did not qualify for playoffs.

2013-14: 103 pts, 3rd in west. Lost in first round to Edmonton in 6 games.

2014-15: 91 pts, 10th in west. Did not qualify for playoffs.

2015-16: 87 pts, 12th in west. Did not qualify for playoffs.

2016-17: 74 pts, 15th in west. Did not qualify for playoffs.

Individual team awards:

2013-14: Loui Eriksson- Hart Trophy- League MVP

Captain: Loui Eriksson

Alternate Captain: Jamie Benn

Alternate Captain: Derek Roy

After missing the playoffs for a fifth straight season in 2012-13, the team makes a few changes, notably parting ways with longtime Star and captain Brendan Morrow. Other veteran players would also not return, with Radek Dvorak, Jaromir Jagr, Brad Lukowich and Stephan Robidas leaving the team. Ray Whitney would be the only player on the roster over 34. Focusing on their young core, Loui Eriksson is given the captaincy and would break the franchise record for most goals in a season, with 57. He would go on to win the Hart Trophy and the Stars re-enter the playoffs in 2013-14 as 3rd in the west.

The Stars would meet the up-and-coming Edmonton Oilers in the first round and fall in 6 games.

That offseason, the Stars rebrand themselves as "Texas' hockey team", and change their name to the Texas Stars. They take elements from their AHL affiliate, who would relocate to Little Rock, AK the same offseason.

Despite having fairly strong seasons, the Stars would fall short in the playoff race for the next two years, and would finish last overall in 2016-17.

New York Islanders

2011-12: 79 pts, 14th in east. Did not qualify for playoffs.

2012-13: 85 pts, 13th in east. Did not qualify for playoffs.

2013-14: 92 pts, 8th in east. Lost in first round to Pittsburgh to 4 games.

2014-15: 101 pts, 5th in east. Lost in second round to Pittsburgh in 6 games.

2015-16: 112 pts, 1st in east. Lost in Stanley Cup finals to Edmonton in 6 games.

2016-17: 100 pts, 4th in east. Lost in second round to Montreal in 7 games.

Individual team awards:

2014-15: John Tavares- Hart Trophy- League MVP

Captain: John Tavares

Alternate Captain: Daniel Sedin

Alternate Captain: Henrik Sedin

Alternate Captain: Kyle Okposo

In the 2012-13 season, the Islanders push strong for the east's 8th seed, but miss out by 6 points. John Tavares finished 4th in point total with 93.

In the offseason, owners Charles Wang sells the team to an ownership group led by businessman Nelson Peltz, a Brooklyn native. Despite having a lease at Nassau Coliseum for 2 more seasons, it's announced just one week after the sale that the Islanders will move their home ice to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which would be slightly modified to boost hockey capacity to 16,500.

In 2013-14, Rick DiPietro would play a full season for the first time in his career, posting 39 wins and a .919 save percentage. The Islanders would finish as the 8th seed, but would fall to Pittsburgh in the first round. John Tavares would be awarded with the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's MVP, joining Bryan Trottier as the only Islanders to win it.

Before the 2014-15 season, the Islanders make the biggest free-agent splash in the team's history, stunning the rest of the league in signing both Sedin brothers to equal 4 year-$25 million contracts.

The Islanders also bring 2009 draft pick goalie Mikko Koskinen back to the NHL after 3 stellar seasons with KalPa in Finland. He would begin the season as the team's starting goalie, as Rick DiPietro announces his retirement due to ongoing knee problems. The team sees a rebirth similar to that of it's 70'-and-80's glory days, selling out every home game in the 2014-15 season.

They would also take part in the 2015 Winter Classic, playing the Rangers at Yankee Stadium.

The new-look Isles would storm to 5th seed in 2014-15 and win a playoff series for the first time in 22 years. They would again fall to Pittsburgh, in the second round.

The consecutive playoff meetings create a new rivalry between the Islanders and Penguins, who arguably feature the two most dynamic offenses in the eastern conference.

The Islanders finish 1st in the east in 2015-16 and for the third consecutive season, they would meet the Pittsburgh Penguins- this time in the conference finals. Winning in 6 games, the Isles reach the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 32 years, behind excellent seasons from all-star goalie Mikko Koskinen, Hart candidate John Tavares, the Sedin twins and strong role players Kyle Okposo, Matt Moulson and Michael Grabner. The Isles would meet up with the powerhouse Edmonton Oilers in the finals and fall in 6 games.

With a nice mix of young stars, veteran leaders and a top-10 goalie, the Islanders are finally relevant once again in the NHL and the New York sports scene.

nice! isles made it to the cup finals in my 30s! i'd sign for that. and a move to brooklyn.

really like the orange numbers on the white jersey. would love to see what a 'brooklyn' third would look like.

I didn't want to make them Brooklyn exclusive, as a lot of their fans are in Queens and on the Island, but I was kind of thinking of making a winter classic between the Rangers and Isles, with the Isles representing the Brooklyn Americans, with the diagonal brooklyn script jersey.

would love to see that. moving to brooklyn is probably the only was the isles could ever get into the winter classic, so it'd be great to see.

2013-14 Winter Classic

Minnesota Wild vs. Dallas Stars

Target Field

Minneapolis, MN

The Winter Classic would hit 'The State of Hockey' on New Year's Day 2014, with Minnesota's new team hosting the original North Stars franchise, the Dallas Stars.

The Wild would wear the uniforms of the North Stars which were worn for 10 years from 1978-1988.

The Stars would sport the uniform that they wore their first year in Dallas, which are similar to those worn the last two seasons in Minnesota.

Alumni Game:

Although the North Stars did become the Dallas Stars, the alumni game is set up that any player that played for either the Minnesota North Stars or Minnesota Wild is eligible to represent the Wild.

Any player who played for the Stars after the team moved to Dallas is eligible to represent Dallas. A player who played in both locations would have the choice.

(Reason being, it would look strange seeing Bobby Smith or Neil Broten wearing the Dallas Stars jersey playing against the North Stars)

Notable Players:

Minnesota:

Manny Fernandez

Gilles Meloche

Jon Casey

Mark Tinordi

Bobby Smith

Brian Bellows

Dino Ciccarelli

Craig Hartsburg

Neil Broten

Basil McRae

Dave Gagner

Wes Walz

Dallas:

Derian Hatcher

Mike Modano

Joe Nieuwendyk

Sergei Zubov

Ed Balfour

Jere Lehtinen

Brett Hull

Darryl Sydor

Kirk Muller

Only issue I have with the Winter Classic is I highly doubt the Wild would wear North Stars jerseys since I would think anything North Stars is still owned by Dallas, isn't it?

Can anyone verify that?

That's correct. The Dallas Stars actually are the North Stars. Minnesota made the move to Dallas in the early 90's.

I really like your Islanders jerseys though. Especially the alternate. This whole series is a good idea. Very descriptive and fun to read.

Also wouldn't the Winter Classic be Minnesota Wild vs Texas Stars, according to your series?

teehee

Nope...they didn't become Texas until the season after.

I ofcourse realize that the Dallas Stars are the original North Stars, but I just thought having the team representing Minnesota (the Wild) wear the uniform of the team that used to represent Minnesota would make more sense and go over better with fans. The Stars uni is that of the transition period (minus the shoulder patch), so in essence they kind of both are.

That North Stars jersey beats the hell out of that Dallas "Norm Greed" jersey hands down.

Individual team awards:

2012-13: Steven Stamkos- Hart Trophy- League MVP

Captain: Martin St. Louis

Alternate Captain: Steven Stamkos

Alternate Captain: Victor Hedman

The Lightning would get back to the postseason in 2012-13, but would fall to Boston in the second round. Steven Stamkoss is named league MVP.

For the third time in 7 seasons, the Lightning's uniforms are overhauled following the 2012-13 season, featuring a look that bases itself on the team's cup-winning uniforms. Silver is re-introduced into the color scheme, but instead of black, the team uses charcoal.

At the 2013-14 trade deadline, longtime leader Vinny Lecavalier is traded to the Montreal Canadiens.

In the 2014 offseason, the team signs goaltender Ryan Miller to a 5 year-$35 million deal, instantly making themselves a contender in the Eastern Conference.

The team would meet the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2014-15 conference final, but would fall in 6 games.

An alternate uniform is introduced before the 2014-15 season.
