2012-13 NBA Logo & Uniform changes

To be honest, I'm going to miss the old Suns' court. Although there wasn't a great balance of purple and orange, it was memorable. I guess management is too eager to deliver an identity that would wash the taste of Steve Nash leaving out of the fan's mouth. I think that because the Suns see the Lakers as their top rival, they would eliminate all colors that they share. Unfortunately that means saying goodbye to purple.

Here's the new Suns' wordmark

I kinda like what the Suns did there, as it reads Suns from both sides of the stands. And the court is positively refreshing and communicates a desert atmosphere, I like it.

They've had that with their previous logos too.

Yes, but they didn't have the script logo at the center court before, making it look "the right way" regardless of which side of the court you look at it from.

So they are going to kill off purple completely in their next re-branding?

seems it :(

also, an NBA 2K13 vid of the Nets unis...with round-neck collars oddly enough.

Not really sure what's up with that collar. It's round-necked, but has the outline of a V-neck below it.

It's a video game. When was the last time a video game was accurate in their jerseys? Plus, it's NBA2K13, I wouldn't put worry about it at all.

Have we seen a new court for the Bobcats yet? or are they just going to keep using the now-outdated one? It wouldn't surprise me. Their new color scheme isn't bad in and of itself, but they're so committed to using the same letters and numbers from 2004, which were kind of ugly in their original context but look even worse when arched or straightened or whatever else they've done, that everything just ends up looking so band-aided.

Look at the Sixers' home page video. New court?

What gives you that impression?

I think there was a split-second image of a court with a red sideline. Go back and keep an eye peeled toward the end.

Interesting - it also looked like it had the black "spectrum" logo, just like... well, the old Spectrum floor.

Since it's the 50th anniversary season, maybe they're doing a throwback court? I'll ask the CEO.

I wonder if they'll ever copy Boston's "You Can Call It The Garden" campaign and rename the place the Wells Fargo Spectrum (or maybe Comcast Spectrum eventually). I think that would be the best outcome.

So then does it look like the "spectrum" logo to anyone else?

It'll never be the Comcast Spectrum, because it already has a big sign on it that says "A Comcast Venue", and then another one where the Comcast SportsNet studios are (they're attached to the building.) There's also "YOU'RE IN COMCAST COUNTRY!" written really huge above the upper seating bowl, presumably to intimidate players from teams who's games are carried by Time Warner or Cox or whoever else.

Also there's Xfinity Live right next door (where the Spectrum used to stand), and big signs that read "Comcast Complex", so there's no need to name the building that because they already have the exposure.

Also, the Spectrum was named for Ed Snider's company "Spectacor" (which builds and manages arenas around the country - so other pro teams have always indirectly been funding the Flyers, even before the Comcast deal), and when he merged it with Comcast, it became Comcast Spectacor (kinda close to Comcast Spectrum - not that it really matters I guess.)

FWIW, the Flyers pay channel in the '80s was named PRISM, just to continue the theme. Flyers and soft-core porn - well worth the $13.95 / month.

(intro from a young Doc Emerick.)

With what we're seeing with the Suns' court, I'm actually hoping for orange primaries next year. I actually really like the orange alts they currently use. I hate that purple is apparently gone, but an orange primary would be solid....and unique to the NBA.

I really doubt the Suns nix purple entirely. I think it's more likely that purple gets changed to a complimentary color since Suns fans are proud of their purple heritage and the arena is known as the 'Purple Palace'. If the Suns did completely rid themselves of purple they would have to change all of the seats out in their arena which are purple.

That being said, Purple was Jerry Colangelo's favorite color and this is the first season in which he is no longer a part of the organization (he remained chief executive officer then chairman after selling the team in 2004) so I guess it is possible.
