No matter if he shouldn't have thrown the flag or not, that's an absolutely STUPID rule. So the refs :censored: up, you throw the challenge flag because its so freaking obvious they screwed up, and then Toulouse the option to challenge

because of that? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Yeah, like it's punishment enough to get 15 yards on the flag for unsportsmanlike conduct, why punish the team even more? Schwarz is obviously an idiot, but understandably upset about it, why not attempt to get it right anyway?

Is it a stupid rule? Maybe. But it's a rule that Jim Schwartz should know. Knowing the rules of the game is part of being an NFL head coach.

And if Schwartz DID know the rule, but threw the challenge flag to show up the refs, then damn straight he should be penalized!

Any coach can now throw a flag if they dont want a review so Tom Brady can score after being tackled and Bellicheat can throw the flag and no review. Total :censored:ing joke. Get the play right if the coach tosses the flag who the hell cares

Ok make a penalty of Scwartz 15 yards, but review the damn play.

Wrong. In this scenario the Pats wouldn't benefit from the review, therefore it would still be reviewed.

The NFL is so freakin screwed up. How in the hell can you have a rule that states, "A coach can challenge a play, unless that play was going to be reviewed anyway thus correcting the original bad call by the refs and on top of that we will penalize the team of the coach who threw the flag because we don't want to be told we screwed up." That's the rule. The intelligent thing to do is let the coach know the play is being reviewed by the league and the challenge is ignored and the team challenging the play will still have their challenge.

Yeah because I'm sure he would purposely cost his team a touchdown. TAKE THAT, REFS!!!

No, they only don't review the play if it would be overturned in favor of the team that threw the flag. Is it a stupid rule? Probably, but I can kind of see why it's in place. Schwartz should know the rule and you can't blame anyone else for that play not being reviewed. The coach is the guy that needs to be keeping his cool the most in that situation and he did the opposite.

I heard an NFL exec talking about this on (I think) NFL Network, and I understand they don't want coaches abusing the challenge privilege. But if the play's going to be reviewed anyway, what advantage does Schwartz (in this case) gain? He's not stopping a team running the hurry-up, or trying to keep the clock from running out. He's caught up in the game and he wants to make sure the play gets reviewed. His reflex is probably to get the flag out as quickly as possible.

What I'm saying is, either way, there's absolutely no excuse for Schwartz throwing the challenge flag. In no way is this the referee's fault.

What exactly is that rule meant to prevent? Rules should not be created 'just because.'

I have never seen another rules violation result in as big of a penalty, when umm... there are far more serious violations. A free TD AND 15 more yards?
