Jungle Jim
There's absolutely nothing cool about those '68-'80 uniforms the Bengals wore. They had ZERO sex-appeal whatsoever. They're almost as awful (but not totally) as Denver's throwbacks from 1960 that they wore in 2009 for AFL-50Reds uniform you posted was sharp tho' ... that I will concede.I'd love to see the Patriots wear those ... but the preseason version from 1960 without the number beneath the revolutionary era hat. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, perhaps you are right about the Bengals, although your comparison to the Broncos is laughable. But there were lots of us who rooted for the team wearing that uniform for 13 years, and who have a basement museum full of the memorabilia based on that set, and we'd love to see it on the field again at least once on a yearly basis. Then I find it odd that you criticize that Bengals set and then wish for an equally bland and boring Patriots set to be used again. Other than the colors being used, what exactly is the difference between the two? Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

John in KY
Jungle Jim and me. The only two people in captivity that actually like that Bengals look. I love the simplicity of it. Sue me. Nope - I liked it as well. Pre-Nike I could have seen this working in an updated form: use the tiger stripe helmets, make the sleeve stripes just a cuff, put orange trim around the numbers and use the leaping tiger from the 1997-2003 set on the sleeves, and use the striped pants (if they wanted they could even do up black pants as long as they had some kind of stripe on them). That would pull together all the eras from 1968 through 2003. Now I'm not sure how the cuff/stripe would work with the Nike template judging by how Nike shifted the Chiefs from the cuff/stripe to an actual sleeve stripe (and moved the TV numbers to the shoulders). IceCap
Jungle Jim and me. The only two people in captivity that actually like that Bengals look. I love the simplicity of it. Sue me. It's a nice looking uniform in a vacuum (I love the BENGALS font). The problem is that it was just to close to the Browns' set. Of course there are striping differences here and there, but on the whole it's the same basic setup. The only real differences being that the inclusion of the BENGALS wordmark on the helmet and the swapping of brown for black (which would be even less notable today, with the Browns sporting their darker shade of brown). It's just to close for me to really get behind, even though it looks good on its own. If they were in difference conferences, maybe it would work. Both being in the same division though, let alone the same conference? Eh, I just don't see how it could work. Now you know what would be interesting? Take the throwback uniform from the neck down and wear it with the current tiger-striped helmet. That could be interesting. It would retain the classic, clean aesthetic of the uniform, and the tiger helmet might be enough of a difference to kill the Browns comparisons. It's too simple, IMO. There's nothing distinctive or iconic about it, it's just bland. Definitely not better than this set: POTD: 2/4/12 3/4/

Besides, I didn't say it was better than the Esiason era set and I never said it was a great uniform. All I said was that I liked it. It is possible to like more than one uniform per team. Take the Rams for example, I like both of these...This isn't an either/or topic.

Jinjoe
I wouldn't mind seeing these. Although the Eagles one would probably be a nightmare to try to adapt to the current uniform template.
BigBubba
This will never happen, but...Obviously not at this point in time, but sometime down the road I'd love to see them sport these. Yeah, those uniforms are plain, not necessarily bad, just plain. The helmet is unique in that it's just the team name arched, and for that reason, it'd be cool to throwback to, but...I don't want them to throwback to these because the Bengals knocked the damn thing so far out of the park with their current helmet, that we need to see them 16 times a season.Other than the helmet though, the Bengals can do waaaaaaay better. raysfan24
the devil rays already threwback to that jersey, as did the diamondbacks and the brewersI knew about the Devil Rays but posted it because I think it needs to be thrown back more. I didn't know about the Brewers or Diamondbacks though. And the reason for that particular Reds uniform is because that is my favorite. I feel they perfected that uniform and it looked really nice in person.

ARTnSocal
According to gridiron database, these were used as throwbacks in 1994 but I can't find a picture. They were worn in 1994 (both home and road if I'm remembering correctly). There used to be a website that had photos of all the 75th Anniversary throwbacks but I can't find it anymore; I guess the owner took it down.It was actually a chat board that had plenty of 75th anniversary uniforms ..... never posted the away version tho'
