Maybe he did take responsibility: he was saying that he was his own bitch teacher. Even then, "my bitch teacher" is an appositive, and should be set off with commas. Admirable autodidacticism notwithstanding, I'd bust him down to a 90 right off the bat, and I don't care how bitchy that may be.

I was just about to say the same thing. Is that supposed to represent a pinstripe, or did the letter itself have those little spires poking out? I like it. Gives it even more character.

The "central line" actually represents the soutache (piping) on the caps in those years, ala the Ty Cobb era.
