2013 MLB Logo and Uniform Changes

Those would be perfect for the Metsies.

They'd still have the problem of too many uniforms though. It'd be six:

- Pinstripe Home

- Cream Home

- Blue Home

- Black Home (Rumor is once this year for a "Mike Piazza Day", but it would still exist)

- Gray Road

- Blue Road

...not to mention they'll probably do another dumb "Los Mets" something-or-other.

Here's what that road blue may look like:

Is that gray on the letter and number, because I swear I saw gray in some artwork for the new alts. Am I crazy?

It is. This was a late 90's BP jersey and never used in a game.

The gray you saw in artwork here is a concept as was previously mentioned.

The version with the red hat? No thanks. Why would the Mets have a red brim? Because of the big apple? Pass.

That's an orange bill.

It looks totally red to me on my screen. The orange in the NY on the cap and Mets script/#5 look like complete, regular Mets orange, but the bill of that cap looks red.

RedOrange.png

The top is taken from the bill of the cap, the bottom from the script logo/number font. Maybe it's just me but they're definitely not the same color.

I'd hate that more than anything. I can't stand the idea of having 2 hats so similar. It's like the New York (football) Giants 2 sets of grey pants. Just don't do it. It's silly.

The difference is, they don't sell the pants...

Maybe they should. Not football pants of course, but maybe cargo pants with each team's stripes or design on them.

How about athletic shorts/pants or even sweatpants?

You are putting words into my mouth (or on to my screen).

Sorry, i was just assuming based on your oft-shown distain for sports fandom and the slovens who enjoy sports.

Anyway, back to baseball. Can anyone confirm that those are the Mets' alternates?

Those are NOT the Mets' new alternates. They are a concept. From the original post: "Hope they'll look like this, I think it would look real nice." and then he embedded the pic.

The description of the new alts, from MetsBlog (& Chris):

"Chris Creamer from SportsLogos.net, which has broken several uniform-related stories over the last year or so, says the Mets will feature the pinstripe cream and plain white at home and the same road grays from 2012, as well as a blue jersey at home and a second blue jersey on the road (which will feature silver and gray script, not orange). Creamer also says the team will bring back a black jersey, which Shannon speculates could be a way to honor Mike Piazza, who is finally eligible for the baseball Hall of Fame this summer."

The quote says the road alts won't have orange. So that may mean no orange in the lettering at all, or no orange as the dominant lettering color. It isn't clear.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

I really hate the shift New Era is making to Chinese made on field caps. I went to game 2 of the NLCS earlier this week and really wanted to pick up one of the post season on field caps, but wanted to do everything I possibly could to avoid having to grab a Chinese made cap. I went to three different Lids stores and finally the dugout store and every single one had the same problem. All sizes in the standard all black cap 7 1/2 and below were American made, while everything above that was Chinese made. Of course, I wear a 7/58. The orange billed caps were all US made, but the quality of the caps were absolutely awful. They were crushed from shipping, the bills were crooked, the logos were poorly stitched, and the sizes were all over the place. It's almost as if New Era is purposely screwing up the US made caps in order to push more of the Chinese product. I ended up going with a Chinese made cap, and while it fits decently, it still just doesn't look the same. The quality of New Era caps in the past few years has absolutely taken a nose dive. It's really disappointing to see.

Whoops. I didn't realize this was already discussed. I guess I wasn't throwing out any breaking news.

I am definitely pulling for a plaid/tartan billed Rays hat. Wear it at home on Sundays with the light blue jersey. Also, any word if the Rays will keep the dark and light blue alternates?

I really doubt the Mets away alternate is completely devoid of orange, it probably just meant the script isn't orange based

On the topic of shorts designed after football teams' pants, I would buy mesh basketball shorts with teams' stripes on them and maybe a logo on the front lower leg

Same here with the football shorts. I'd buy the heck out of those and I wouldn't be alone. Not only that, but how about long sweatpants that mimic teams' designs?

I think somebody did a concept or a mock-up of the idea here a few years ago and it turned out great. It's such a good and simple idea. I'm surprised the NFL hasn't done it.

There is an orange outline around the gray wordmark.

Oh good, so it's like my earlier concept then?

Does it have orange piping around the collar and down the chest?

Like these? (Well, minus the big ass logo.)

Those are freaking AWESOME! For normal shorts they'd look kinda stupid, but swim/board shorts I feel you're more allowed to go with some crazy colorful designs. I'd buy a pair in a second if I was a Dolphins fan.

Getting back to the saint/st. debate, I always heard that any St. City was technically Saint, and I'm pretty sure it had to do with the post office. I used to live in St Cloud, and that's exactly how you saw it everywhere, interstate exit signs, SCSU,etc. However the "welcome to" sign in town was Saint Cloud.

Early in the summer I emailed the Mariners asking if they would make the alt cap the full time home cap. I also asked if they could bring back the 90s teal alternate cap. I got an automated response about how they appreciate questions and mine was being forwarded to the appropriate department and to expect a response.

Now it's almost winter and still nothing. I think it's safe not to expect any changes on their part. >_<

Also, it's great the Mets are embracing the blue jerseys again. I think it would be great if they had 2 BP jerseys: a blue jersey and an orange one. I'm not sure a regular season orange alternate would work for the Mets. But for BP and Spring Training, why not?

And, if the Mets are keeping their black alternate for this season just for Mike Piazza, would they get rid of it after 2013?

I got the same exact results from asking the M's a similar question. Frustrating indeed, but the M's are one ballclub that has been historically good at keeping their mouths shut regarding upcoming changes, trade rumors, etc. So I'll take it as reassurance, because the M's are one club that really listens to feedback from the fans.

As for the Mets, two blue alts would be alright I guess, just as long as they aren't both orange script/white outline. I like that for the home alt, but I really hope that NEW YORK script in silver with an orange outline comes to life as the road alt.

Two other things about the Mets: it kinda bothers me that the black alt is STILL not gone, but if they promise to keep it for literally only a couple of games, that's reasonable (especially given the Piazza situation). Second, an orange alt is not the way to go. They used an orange BP jersey around '06 I think, and it looked hideous. Also, eliminate the "snow white" alt. The Mets don't need so many different jerseys in the mix.

From San Berdoo to Kalamazoo.
