FiddySicks
Sorry if this isn't the place to ask, but is there a color difference in the 2013 Pirates throwback compared to when they wore it a few years ago for a weekend? I have an American Needle 1971 reproduction and you can still find some of the ones from a few years ago on the shelfs in some stores. I just wanted to know if there's a real difference or should I purchase a new one (to go with the new Cutch jersey I just bought)? Also, is the MLB tag on the back different from the one a few years back? Thanks. My AN hat looks a little "off brown" and the lids/MLB shop picture looks a little "off yellow."My AN hat http://www.flickr.com/photos/56898341@N07/5981337005/in/photostreamLids http://www.lids.com/MLB/Pittsburgh-Pirates/20489862My yellow (wish they'd use) fashion hat for comparison http://www.flickr.com/photos/56898341@N07/6012080244/in/photostreamNo, it's the exact same cap they wore a season or two ago. The images look different, but you can't trust graphics online. I've actually seen the cap the Pirates will wear next season (not the BP, the alt) and the color is the same goldish color it was two seasons ago. Sodboy13
That's a reproduction, and a poor one at that. The real caps had a metallic brim like the Astros' mid-'90s alternate cap.I know the Astros' gold brim was metallic but I thought the brims on those White Sox 90s BP caps was just a flat gray?If anything, the error I noticed in that Sox reproduction was the different mesh structure. The mesh material used in the repro has holes in straight alignment with one another, whereas the actual ones had more of an alternating pattern. Hard to describe in words, but something similar to how brick walls are done in an overlapping pattern to add strength to the structure.I've seen that Sox BP cap in person. It was a shiny metallic brim. Old School Fool
http://espn.go.com/b...g-practice-capsHere are all the new BP hats...The Mets, Astros and Rays ones are awesome, but the Braves one is really awful and I'm betting that this thread turns into a war zone over "you know what."I'm also disappointed in the Giants not reviving the cursive G. erlovepuck
Via Uni Watch: http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/16228/first-look-new-mlb-batting-practice-capsWhat I still am unsure of is what these are made of. We've heard that they will be 5950 BP caps. Does that mean just the same performance fabric as regular caps or are these still made of some type of mesh material. Clearly the mockups indicate a high crown, flat bill so it is not the same type of fabric as the more recent BP caps.
CubsFanBudMan
Out of those first three you posted, I love the Orioles' one. They used it as a throwback a few years ago and I had hoped they'd bring that back when the cartoon bird returned. I prefer it to the white panel. Mets and Rays definitely went different. I like that. Don't think either are caps to build new IDs around, though.

They should just be a different sometimes outside the box design which they were the first few years. We all know its all about the merchandising side anyway so this way they have something different to sell and they dont need all this piping, stretch panels, etc that we've seen the last few years. CS85
Am I the only one that finds BP hats very tacky? Some of these designs are cool, but on the whole it seems just...kitschy to say "No no, THESE are the hats you'll wear to BP. They've got weird colors, alternate logos, and piping and stuff." I get it, it's a business. No sport relies on it's caps more than baseball, but ehh..EHHH. I will say I approve of how many teams are employing the white panels, however. Absolutely. We were talking about this a few pages ago. Push the envelope a bit, have some fun, maybe you strike gold. Not sure any of these do that, but I like just about all of them. Of course, I grew up in an era of front paneled caps, so even the Padres one works for me, even if you take the logo off it becomes a 1980s Little League "local bank" cap. Some probably took the wrong risks, but at least none of them are game cap duplicates.
dahatman
The one thing Paul did not mention was the material that the hats are made from. Are they standard 5950's or a mesh variation?
NDwas
I think this is good time to interject with an "I told you so."These were spotted for the first time just a few weeks ago, and after showing them to Mr. Creamer, I received this simple response: "Um...wow." Tomorrow's just your future yesterday.

DC in Da House w/o a Doubt
This post will be updated to include new changes as we find out about them,Confirmed changesThe Nationals are getting a new capProbably a red cap with a blue brim to wear on the road with the red jerseys. That's my guess for the Natties.
The Six
Yeah, this was a perfect opportunity for the Giants to revive rhe "G" logo. Instead, their hats look exactly the same as the Sunday alts. The Reds' BP cap may be the most horrible cap in baseball, next to the Braves' one. njmeadowlanders
The Mets are also going to have a "post-game interview" cap. This is getting ridiculous. Soon there will be hats for different innings.

Soon there will be hats for different innings. It's not that big of a deal really. Just a way to show off more apparel off the field. Since they can't do it on the sidelines like the NFL because they'll already be wearing their regular hats in games, I guess they felt this was the best opportunity. Could be worse, at least they're not forcing teams to wear alternates on the field. Now a team like the Yankees can have another hat design for fans to wear and it'll still feel official, but yet it won't tinker with the Yankees classic look on the field.I kinda like the idea, just so I can see more hat designs. CalgaryJaysFan
I too am surprised by several of these. I think Houston did a great job, but my beloved Blue Jays get a maple leaf? The Tigers, Royals and others get a white paneled front, but Toronto does not. I am puzzled. As always, I'll reserve final judgement until I see them in person. randyc
When I was reading the article and saw white paneled caps, I thought, yes, the Jays will have an updated white panel cap! And yet they chose to put the maple leaf on that hat? C'mon

gosioux76
So pleased that the Twins are using this old batting helmet design (the one Joe Mauer wears with his catching gear) as a BP hat.
