This is the equivalent of throwing $999,999,999 into a toilet after you worked 23 hours a day for 80 years straight. Why screw something up that was so perfect to begin with? One thing they could do is swap the positions of the logos. In other words, put the maple leaf on the back, and the bird head on the front. That's be a nice hat.

Horrible idea. Now I'm shuddering at the idea of the Nats having either another curly W on the back or a miniature of their primary logo.... neither sound very appealing.

Maybe just maybe, its only on hats that don't feature usual hat logos that the public is used to (To kind of dumb it down for them, almost like a friendly reminder. "We know this isn't the logo you are used to, but these are the Blue Jays!"... Like Tampa would have the TB on the back, Mets have the NY, Braves the A... etc.)

I dont understand why if they thought putting the second logo on was a good idea they didn't just let it replace the MLB logo. The back of the jersey the player is wearing has one right on the back of the neck so its what a couple inches below the bottom of the cap? I understand that they want it on the back of all on field apparel but maybe they could've spared it on batting practice caps. Or put the 2nd logo on the side like some of the early 2000s BP caps had.

If they absolutely HAD to do this, why couldn't they have just put the logo on the side of the cap?

like the '99 mets and yankees caps, which respectively had the skyline and top hat logo on the side. or they could have, ya know, eliminated the silhoutte logo considering it's on the jerseys. sighhhhh

The Rays logo is clearly related to the team name... sorta. The leaf is not. Yes, the "glint" does appear in pretty much the same manner as the leaf does within the Blue Jays logo, but the maple leaf is a leaf. I can see why they may do this for just the Jays (doesn't mean it looks good, however).

I'm in the same boat. Until we see another team's BP cap with the logo on the back I'm thinking this is just a Blue Jay thing since they put a maple leaf on the front.

Two things real quick:

  1. This wouldn't be so bad without the MLB logo on the back. In fact, they would almost remind me of the '47 brand caps with the wordmarks on the back.
  2. That said, I think that we might see some variation in what logo we see. For example, the Yankees might go with the top hat logo on the back, like they did on the side of the late '90s BP caps. Or we could see the Yankees script over the MLB logo on the home, and the New York arched script on the road. This would be in keeping with the dugout jackets/BP jerseys. I expect other teams to follow suit. For instance the White Sox might use the hanging sox logo, or the Chicago script. We might be in for a few more rarely used logos than we thought on this one. Maybe the Padres will even have the swinging friar!

this is what modell's responded to me as to when the hats are coming

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your email. The 2013 Phillies Batting Practice Hat should be arriving in our Philadelphia store within the next couple of weeks.

The stores are expected to get MLB merchandise by the middle to the end of February.

Thanks,

That Jays cap looks too busy on the back. I hope they are not all like that. I think the Jays would be better served putting the Maple Leaf "behind" the MLB logo and putting something else on the front.

According to Pirates Message Boards and Pittsburgh Pirates President Fank Coonley...this will be the last year for the Jolly Rodger Pirates Logo from 1997-present.

Interesting. Yeah it doesn't really match anything they wear.

Though we all need to start praying now for no roundel.

I'm praying for one, just because I'm sick of hearing everyone whining about them.
