jigokusabre
If the ring was a ring of fire, then it would not be broken at both ends of the dolphin. The dolphin is jumping in front of (not through) whatever the orange ring represents. That's how I see it, anyway.
Sport
I think that it's always supposed to have been the sun, even in the new logo, but as a little kid I thought it was jumping through a hoop of fire.

I live on an island in Florida. When they are jumping at full speed, that tail flips up every time. This new logo is way more dolphin like than the old when it comes to it's jump. BrandMooreArt
its a ring of fire. why cant some people distinguish the diference between an illustration and a picture? not everything has to be photo-real

Joshawaggie
I think the ring has a double meaning of both a ring of fire and sun. Why not? It works.
Legend
Another Florida team with just a crap logo. Still better than the Rays, Bolts, and Marlins.Ranking FL sports logos, best to worst.Bolts, Rays, Jaguars, Bucs, Dolphins, Panthers, Marlins.Hard to put the Bolts ahead of the Marlins, but that Marlin logo is a disaster. The Bolts logo is just amatuer as hell.FYPLOL!
Jay_Mellowed
This discussion about this Dolphins logo really opens your eyes. . . We've really been looking at a double entendre the whole time.

You do jump in front of a sun, not through it. Miami/South Florida = sun. Ask the Panthers.Notice the triangles around the sun. Generic suns are full of them. Just like the Dolphins. And don't call anyone a MOD EDIT when you don't know for sure yourself.
tBBP
There's something to be said about Florida being the "Sunshine State"...just saying.But...who's to say it was or wasn't originally intentionally designed as a double entendre? The Native Floridian in me believes it was originally intended to be a sun...I'd bet dollars most of the rest of us natives (and yes, native Floridians actually do exist, though we're a rare breed ) think the same thing. But, you know what? Someone go chase down whoever originally designed this thing, provided he or she is still alive, and ask that person??

hugevolsfan
I had always thought it was the sun being a Dolphins fan when Marino played.I could see how people would think ring of fire but with the Dolphin not going through it I just did not think that is what it represented.however it would be hard to make that look good IMO at least with the current design

nuordr
The ring is the sun considering I believe it was the Dolphins way of honoring the Sunshine state of Florida. I am shocked that this discussion has went on this long without that being mentioned.
Rockstar Matt
Actually, the Sun is white. At least it is in our normal color spectrum.
