If the ring was a ring of fire, then it would not be broken at both ends of the dolphin. The dolphin is jumping in front of (not through) whatever the orange ring represents. That's how I see it, anyway.

THANK YOU!

Also, I see a dolphin jump almost every day. I live on an island in Florida. When they are jumping at full speed, that tail flips up every time. This new logo is way more dolphin like than the old when it comes to it's jump.

that was always a consideration...what I also considered was the limitation of graphic design of the era.

For what it's worth, I had this shirt when I was younger and loved it:

That is the greatest shirt I've ever seen.

its a ring of fire. why cant some people distinguish the diference between an illustration and a picture? not everything has to be photo-real

Anything to back up that claim?

you mean besides it being a ring of firery flames? . . . i guess not. ok, ill admit im taking a stance a side of something that is a bit abstract. the interpretation is up to the viewer. if you see a sun then so be it. but for anyone to say "its not a ring of fire" is damn MOD EDIT.

Another Florida team with just a crap logo. Still better than the Rays, Bolts, and Marlins.

Ranking FL sports logos, best to worst.

Bolts, Rays, Jaguars, Bucs, Dolphins, Panthers, Marlins.

Hard to put the Bolts ahead of the Marlins, but that Marlin logo is a disaster. The Bolts logo is just amatuer as hell.

FYP

LOL!

Again, you dont jump in front of a ring, you jump through it. You do jump in front of a sun, not through it. Miami/South Florida = sun. Ask the Panthers.

Notice the triangles around the sun. Generic suns are full of them. Just like the Dolphins.

And don't call anyone a MOD EDIT when you don't know for sure yourself.

There's something to be said about Florida being the "Sunshine State"...just saying.

But...who's to say it was or wasn't originally intentionally designed as a double entendre? The Native Floridian in me believes it was originally intended to be a sun...I'd bet dollars most of the rest of us natives (and yes, native Floridians actually do exist, though we're a rare breed :P) think the same thing.

But, you know what? Someone go chase down whoever originally designed this thing, provided he or she is still alive, and ask that person??

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

I had always thought it was the sun being a Dolphins fan when Marino played.

I could see how people would think ring of fire but with the Dolphin not going through it I just did not think that is what it represented.

however it would be hard to make that look good IMO at least with the current design

thanks for the art lesson, but like i said, it dosent need to be a literal visual representation. its an illustration. its abstract. suns dont have big ass white holes in them either do they?

and Mike Dee's opinion is no better than anyone elses here. until you get a quote from the artist himself, its going to be abstract. and im on the side of it being a ring of fire.

The ring is the sun considering I believe it was the Dolphins way of honoring the Sunshine state of Florida. I am shocked that this discussion has went on this long without that being mentioned.
