2013 NFL uniform/logo changes

I think the point of helmets being de facto team logos, and the rule that everybody's facemask needs to be the same color both invalidate the "equipment" claim.

Yeah i don't see them as equipment necessarily, however i do see grey as a neutral color.

Most athletic programs have grey t shirts or team colored t shirts to workout in, at least that was the case where i grew up. and it can look fantastic as a facemask color like usc or the giants. Those would look a lot worse imo if they were black or a team color.

Probably nothing, but the Lions have black pants this training camp:

While the Lions have used black shorts in the past, whenever they've gone with pants, they've always been silver:

Just something to keep on eye on...

are there any more images of the black pants, they dont appeat to be in the PC cut, but it's also hard to tell from this angle

thats really strange.

there is a slim chance that it may just be the moisture and sweat combined with natural light.... but those appear to be dazzle/shiny mesh. maybe left over (and never used) from the black reebok set?

Can't be reebok. doesn't have the equipment shield

good catch. was just going off the material.... thought they could have 're-purposed' the old practice gear like a lot of teams did last season.

practice gear is next to impossible to decipher as there is absolutely no standard or consistency in terms of uniforms from team to team..look at the practice jerseys...they are nike and have the equipment shield but the pants are nike and only have the nfl shield.

but then again the pants appear to be your standard 90's shiny spandex/nylon football pant that could be purchased from a multitude of manufacturers and simply had the appropriate logos added after purchase for the sake of compliance.

Not sure if it's been reported already, but the Titans are gonna wear their navy blue jerseys on October 20th (SF) and November 10th (JAX) in honor of their 15th anniversary as the Titans. It'll be the first time the uniform's been worn since 2008.

Lions upcoming alternate uniform and black pants update http://www.wxyz.com/...says-stay-tunedtempphoto09-072813--nfl_mezz_1280_1024.jpg?width=960&height=720

The last thing the league needs is more plain black leotards like the Saints and Ravens....the worst looking pants in the NFL!

Lewand admitted the excitement surrounding a potential alternate is felt within the walls of Allen Park, but the Lions must also "preserve our traditions."

LOL, does preserving tradition come with losing seasons and being the laughing stock of the NFL?

Someone didn't read the article.

Lewand explained the black practice pants are easier to clean than the traditional silver pants worn in years past. The reasons for making the switch were practical.

"The black pants in practice are really just an outgrowth of black shorts when it's a shorts practice. It's a stock Nike product," he said.

It may have already been posted but we think we know what the Jags will be wearing at home this year. First two home games will be white. Teal against the Chargers. White for the London game then black for the last four home games.

This article is packed with more little nuggets of terrible terrible news than you'd have thought possible in so short an article.

Idiots in charge of everything.

So to sum it up...

  • Possible alternates being allowed like Pro Combat, etc.
  • The idea of an all black uniform for the Lions, including the helmet.
  • The thought that team executives are actually interested in what Nike deems 'creativity'.
  • That the Lions true Honolulu blue throwbacks are 'never' coming back.

So yea, that all SUCKS. Especially the removal of the alternate rule the NFL currently has. That's what worries me the most.

Did you catch this part of tthe article?...

"Calvin would look good in anything. We could go back to our real Honolulu blue and silver throwbacks with no black and Calvin could still pull that off," Lewand joked.

In other words, this pinhead is saying that Calvin would look good even in something as ugly as our old throwbacks.
